2025-2026 Portal Updates

Yeah bc Rhule is looking to next years recruiting class with Trae and others to move us forward.

This isn't so much directed at you but... that's idiotic if true.

Like... Rhule might not even be here by the time Trae is ready to make an impact, assuming he even ultimately ends up at Nebraska at all.

Twiddling your thumbs is not a good look, ever.

We had the youngest team in the B1G last year. We lost very little through the portal. We added several key pieces through the portal. That means most of the guys he brought here, are still here and should be ready to produce on the field next year.

Will it work? Who knows but it's Matt's gamble. Let's sit back and enjoy our basketball team and let the football coaches execute their plan without slandering the group to the point we start to cause attrition on our own. For those that need additional distractions, Nebraska wrestling has a pretty big weekend as well.

I'm not all that intrigued by Babalade and Mubenga. Mubenga was one of the worst-graded OL in the entire country and Babalade showed very little development during his time at S. Carolina.
Not true pass blocking, they are both above average. Both have work to do in run blocking. Run blocking has as much to do with the scheme. Give Geep a chance. Its not all doom & gloom.

True, but several guys entered the portal, only to discover that other teams weren't all that interested. In regards to the portal, we filled some holes, but how many are really upgrades over what we already had?

OK, well, I'm at least a little less worried about whether Trae will ultimately end up at Nebraska now. 👀

I think we definitely had some solid additions. But our worst position group we just have to hope gets improved by a new scheme/coaching. They absolutely did not bring in enough at that interior DL spot. There are some younger guys who may not be ready to contribute. Losing the JUCO guy stings. Would've been nice to add 3-4 interior guys or keep Davis plus those three. We will find out quick next year if we did.

We also didn't add any sort of pass rush. Might be about the same level of brutality up front in that regard considering the SOS.

Definitely seems like the staff is banking a lot on development and the new coaches unlocking another level for some guys, which is a gamble. I think Stoudmire will at least be an improvement over Jeudy, and everyone else is a year older. I'm clearly gullible, but I am willing to believe a defensive staff with a coherent plan can make significant improvements with the same pieces (+ a year of experience for each of them). DL is not going to be a strength though.

Pass rush has a little more reason for optimism IMO, Nwaneri and Pietrzak both flashed as freshmen. Nwaneri just needs to finish - similar to Princewill a year ago, his pressure rate didn't translate to as many actual sacks as you'd expect. But it's also a gamble to bet on young guys without a ton of production and only bring in one guy who has more schools played for than sacks.

I think flat out they just missed on most of their targets and either we won't or can't afford to pay/overpay for some of these premium DL. Or they just weren't interested. Relationships, pro potential, winning, etc all still matter. Money while it is a large part of the equation..is not all. We had no interior DL coach for most of the cycle. That certainly can't help.

I wouldn't say anyone on this roster is a clear cut pass rusher. I guess we shall see. Someone could develop into one but I am not near as optimistic.
