You are right that he may not be doing that, I simply hope that's what he's doing.

Because if that's not what's happening, the Matt Rhule tenure at Nebraska has moved on from being bad to an outright disaster. If his plan at QB is to bring in a person who has never played meaningful football, Rhule should save us all the time and energy and resign right now so we can move onto somebody competent.

There are many G5 players with a long career of starts and production we should be contacting, in addition to Minchey, which would immediately make Nebraska competitive. It's malpractice on the part of Rhule not to be going after them.

Minchey is a starter! Reading the ND forum, many thought he should have been the starter over Carr. Sounds like he has all the tools! IQ, strong arm & active legs.

He threw a grand total of 26 passes in 2025. In 2024, he played a grand total of ONE drive and took 4 snaps. Please, for the love of god, we as fans have got to demand better of our coach. If this is the plan, Rhule needs to be fired for cause. He's actively sabotaging the Football program. Notre Dame fans thought he should be the starter because every team thinks the backup should be the starter.

When it comes to the transfer portal, the biggest indicator of success is not High School ranking. It's the number of starts a player has in their career. If the grand plan for Nebraska Football is taking a career backup with 29 career passing attempts, the ineptitude in Memorial Stadium is beyond staggering.
 
I have so many opinions about what I think we should do but at the end of the day, I'm not sure it matters a lot which direction we go at QB. I'm more interested to see the linemen we bring in and how our young line develops in the off season.

I just hope our fan base can show enough restraint to not scare off the good recruits that do want to play for Nebraska while we wait.

I agree, it's a good pickup to increase the talent in the room if Nebraska also picks up a proven product.

Nebraska needs to be looking at Anthony Colandrea from UNLV, Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year.
Alonza Barnett at James Madison - Sun Belt Player of the Year.
Colton Joseph at Old Dominion
Byrum Brown at USF
Drew Mestemaker at North Texas

They could even go after Jaden Craig at Harvard, a late round NFL prospect with 6,074 career passing yards with dual-threat ability.

There are probably 5 or 6 more I could list, all players with proven production that Nebraska could realistically land in the portal. If they land a player like that in addition to the career backup, then I'd be excited about the QB room.

I guess. Coach is on his 3rd staff in 4 years. A lot of the players he’s selected and have transferred have accomplished absolutely nothing at their next destination. Not sure they been real strong at identifying talent.

Eluded to that in my post, but im not going to counter a point because of a vague statement to go dig for info. The D2 guy for Ole Miss is ridiculous. The kid at North Texas never started a game in high school. It happens.


I hope he works out. We need it. Our history under Rhule with back ups has been weak. He’s made so many poor selections from coaches to players.

I'm guessing we have our name in the hat with several QBs. Who knows who we land but Minchey looks like a solid option if we can bring up the talent level around him. For what it's worth, our staff did bring in the national player of the year from a lower level in 2024. Gramstad never got higher than 3rd on the depth chart but they were willing to give a lower level a shot.
