2025-26 Polls and Rankings

How voters react will depend on who they lose to where the game is played and by how much. If they get blown out by Michigan State at home, the voters who resisted will feel justified and drop them quickly. If they lose close at Ohio State or Indiana on the road (next two games after MSU), the reaction might be mixed. If they manage to stay undefeated until they play at Michigan (1/27) and lose close, they might actually get some credit for a close loss to a team that many think is the best in the country. I don't think getting blown out at Michigan will hurt them much - Michigan has blown out everyone for the last month.
I agree with all that. But, I could see voters being more critical of Nebraska in those situations than if maybe it was Purdue.

It isn't like Illinois didn't know we were undefeated and on the longest winning streak in the nation. I get your point but in this conference anyone can beat anyone on a given day (except maybe Michigan). Teams show up to play every day but maybe they will have a little more juice against an Undefeated Nebraska team.
We are Nebraska, not a normal basketball school.

Huskers are up to 12 in ESPN's power rankings.

ESPN Power Rankings 12/24/25

One of the more unexpected stat lines of the season came from Nebraska's Berke Buyuktuncel. The former UCLA transfer finished Sunday's win over North Dakota with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for just the fourth triple-double in program history. What makes his outing particularly remarkable is the fact Buyuktuncel had 12 assists total in the first 10 games, with just six in his past eight. He never had more than four in a game during the first two-and-a-half seasons of his college career.

Next two weeks: vs. New Hampshire (Dec. 30), vs. Michigan State (Jan. 2), at Ohio State (Jan. 5)

This is the kind of stuff I’m talking about. If we lose, I expect us to drop farther than if we were a different program in the same situation.

We just have to keep proving them wrong.

Same.

However, I will be honest here. That top 10 list has more than a handful of "final four worthy teams", and iLLinois is one of them. In my opinion. It's remarkable that we beat them in their building on their court. I loved it.

This is a computer ranking. It values blow out wins and Illinois just blew out a Missouri team that the same ranking has ranked 92. Illinois also has 3 quad 1 wins vs Nebraska's 1.

Most computer rankings have Nebraska behind Illinois (9 vs 23 at Ken Pom, 10 vs 23 at Torvik, 11 vs 21 at Evan Miya) because they have played a MUCH harder schedule than Nebraska. It's hard to guess what humans will do, but I think my analysis still holds up.

Huskers are at 12 in the NET, 22 in Ken Pom, 25 at Bart Torvik (T-Rank), 20 at Evan Miya, 26 in ESPN's BPI & 6 in ESPN's SOR after last night's win.

After this weekend's games the Huskers are 11 in the NET, 22 at Ken Pom, 23 at Bart Torvik (T-Rank), 22 at Evan Miya, 26 in ESPN's BPI and 5 in ESPN's SOR.
