4 teams made the playoff last year that weren't even ranked to start the year. Indiana, SMU, Boise St, and Arizona St. The pre-season rankings just don't mean as much as they did when only 4 got in.

Penn State at #2?
Why not? They finished #5 last year, return most all of their key pieces and the rest of the top teams lost a *lot* of proven talent.

Teams like Notre Dame and Ohio State, both of whom played in the natty last season, just reload. That's what 5 star talent does for a program. Ranking Penn State above the national champions is a joke. After going 9-4 in his first season, Freeman has gone 10-3 and 14-2. There's no reason to think Notre Dame won't win 10-11 regular season games again. Losing both of his quarterbacks hurts, but again, this is Notre Dame. I am sure someone will step up. Notre's Dame schedule looks to be fairly manageable, with only 3 of their opponents in the preseason top 25.
