Akron: What did we learn?

I continue to believe that Raiola/the passing game has the highest potential when he rolls out.

It will not be a surprise if Dylan rises to a whole new level over the course of the next several games.

Get Barney and Hunter into space downfield. Those two are extremely talented.

Didn’t learn nuthin…was still drunk in Ames after giving Iowa the same treatment they give Nebraska…but here are a couple of general observations for what they’re worth.

A well run 3 front defense CAN stuff the run and get sacks if it’s run correctly.

Big 10 officials get ready for football season by poking each other in the eyes with a stick till they can’t see.

Iowa continues to run out failed linebackers and telling their fans they are quarterbacks.

Modelo is actually pretty damn good once you get past the fifth can.

That is all…

I just learned we paid Akron 1.3 and OSU only paid Grambling 1 million. They win again

We should have had Grambling instead. Mrs. Joseph could visited her old stomping ground and had some Muchachos.

I learned that we can avoid playing down to competition and beat the snot out of a terrible team.

Look, Akron is awful. Truly. But there’s really nothing to complain about here, the team did all you could hope for. Doesn’t mean they’re worldbeaters, but they appear at least competent.

Good day for bad matchups - we score 68, Florida State 77, Alabama 73, Tennessee 72, Ohio State 70, Oregon 69, UCF 68, Minnesota 66, Utah 63, Texas Tech 62...

I learned that was our largest margin of victory since NM State in 1982. A game I attended as a sophomore at UNL 43 years ago 🤯

Glad the backups got reps, hope the RBs can build from here. Arguably, EJs fumble cost two scores, as he was replaced the following drive and we couldn’t punch it in with backups.

The qb sneak / tush push attempt was doo doo, but Akron is the level of opponent where you can afford to test it out. If I saw correctly, Akron DL did an excellent job diving and chopping our OL to prevent any push.

I’d like to see Haarberg run RPO. If there is no threat to pass and OL doesn’t perfectly execute then the one dimensional attack is low odds of success.

I hope some of the personnel decisions were to gauge, tweak, and coach up or to scrap. Lenhardt lead blocking on the goal line showed me you can’t just trot out a big DL and expect they’ll block like Ty.

Our WRs are the best since Bell, Westy, Enunwa era. Lindenmeyer is a stud, yet again. Hunter, Barney, and Key can all make plays. Pretty cool to see and probably gives Raiola a boost of confidence.

Special Teams continued to show signs of strength and that is very important for those tight games - like last week’s 3pt games.

Even for a lesser opponent and the noted criticism, they checked a lot of boxes. They handled an opponent beyond expectation, they overcame mistakes instead of compounding, they played mostly clean football, and simply took care of business. It was fun to watch, they looked like they had fun and now we wait to see if they can do it again next week. Continue from here and build momentum into Michigan week.

Our fan base... in this forum... is ridiculous. These kids did their job tonight and they shouldn't receive any criticism. Best game they have played as a team in years and old fat men on their sofa want too judge them. Stupid imo. Guys should be ashamed posting any criticism after that.

Nice job to all on the team!

Mozee did look great as the #2 with explosiveness but that ill advised Haarberg tush push call wouldn't be necessary if there was a Dowdell like power back. They still need to find their red zone "gotta have it" between the tackles back or play designs for Big Ten play. Pass defense seems much better than last year, loved the play of McGahee IV too. I think he will be a star in the future. It's right to be concerned with the lack of push from the DL but at the same time they are replacing two NFL players in Robinson and Hutmacher. I don't think anybody thought that would be easy to do. It's really nice not to have to cover your eyes before every special teams play. Other than that weird Alvano kick, it's been good to see.. Yes, this was a bad team, although I don't think as bad as Idaho State. I remember the radio guys were even saying how awful the Pocatello Bengals were. Bethune-Cookman is probably in the running too for the worst this century. What's important though is they didn't let up. It was a four quarter beatdown. Even after stubbing their toe early with EJ's fumble and the 4th down stop. They believe. More happy evidence that the team culture is good and where you want it to be.

I got no complaints. That was fun. Reminds me of my first Husker game back in 1982 at the tender age of five, when we beat New Mexico State by the exact same score (68-0) and had ridiculous offensive numbers like those. I remember a play where the receiver (Ricky Simmons) just stood uncovered on the sideline, the ball was thrown right to him off the snap and he went the distance without an opposing player anywhere in the same zip code. This game looked like that at times, which is a good thing.... we played three quarterbacks!

What does it mean? I don't know. Akron is pretty bad.... that's some of the worst tackling I've seen. But hey you can only beat what you have in front of you.

Poor Archie..... his parents came from Melbourne to watch him sit on his a$$ all night, lol. They might have the same problem next week!
