Are Husker Fans Lowering Their Expectations?

I expect less out of Callahan because he's simply just not that good of a coach. I also expect to lose to USC because come on, with their talent and their coach which is one of the best in CFB makes it pretty hard to win. I'm not saying its impossible, just unlikely. I really hope that we have a breakout year but I'm not expecting it. It'll probably be similar to last year. Except we might try this time against USC.
I love Nebraska, but you have to admit that Pete is the best coach in college football. Callahan can recruit well, but he's just not very good at calling plays. Callahan does his homework and comes into games with a solid plan, but eventually the opponent adjusts and from that point on, Callahan is screwed. He cannot adjust his gameplan to work. That's why with every single game I just have to sit there and pray that we are far enough ahead of the opponent at halftime to hold out a win by the end of the fourth quarter. If Callahan is losing at halftime, just turn off the TV- you don't want to see what happens next.

I've lowered my expectations. I used to hope for 11-2 seasons with an outside chance that we could win a national championship if we got lucky. Now I hope for 10-4 seasons with an outside chance that we could win a Big XII championship if we get lucky.

I think you might be a bit blinded by the "what did you do recently" syndrome. Bear in mind that, yes, last year that was the case - we had trouble in the second half. But the year before, it was the opposite for the most part - we'd fall behind in the first half and then have to adjust at halftime and claw our way back.

Given that, it's hardly credible to say that Callahan is unable to make halftime adjustments. I won't pretend to know what was the problem last year, but given what happened the year before - the polar opposite - coaching adjustments don't seem to be the issue.

I do not recall Callahan crafting any brilliant comebacks or making any great adjustments in 2005. There were a lot of other factors that helped us get back in the game like dropped passes and other random breaks in luck. I think last year his playcalling deficiencies were exposed.

How about that fake punt in the cotton bowl from inside our own 30 in the second quarter when Auburn couldn't even move the ball on us? Yeah that was a real playcalling gem. That play broke NU's back in that game.

Personally, I think one of the problems is that Callahan has no faith in his players. Like when he slammed the talent of our team in 2005 after that loss to Kansas, or how he tried to eat up clock against USC because he thought we were so outgunned, or how he said at the end of the 2006 season, we are not a top ten football team. Well of course you aren't if you keep telling your players that they suck. I don't see how any of the players would appreciate comments like those. Great coaches motivate and I don't think that Callahan does. Great coaches are able to adapt to how the game is unfolding as it progresses. Despite what you said about the 2005 season, I do not believe that Callahan is capable of this.

And the minority has spoken.

Some are motivated by ra ra ra. Some have to have their heads slammed against a wall, some never are motivated

You seem to know so much about how bad BC is, but please explain why almost every single player seems to love him. Why players that left the program early thank him after they are in NFL for sharing his knowledge with them.

Depth my friend is the problem at Nebraska, has been since Tom left. It will be for another couple of years. We are not a top ten team, anyone with a clue can see that. No point in lying to anyone about it. Lay your cards on the table and play. He is honest and sincere, and supposedly the kids love him. Hard to ask for anything more. Unless you have no clue about the program and are only going on what you think and want.

Again Frank is gone, try Ohio, they need Frank lovers.
