Sounds like he was "let go" from Florida but given time to find a new job before they announced it. I cant find any specific rumors because most say they arent 100% sure and so arent sharing.

He has ties to the Big Ten footprint and should be a good replacement for Kenya.

Hopefully this isnt a Burno situation but not ideal when Florida is moving past you that quickly... That being said, he was highly respected at Northwestern and I doubt they would let him get away with anything extreme there.

Here's a conspiracy theory I heard around this. Maybe Moos offered him the HC job if things don't work out next year with TM? I have nothing at all to back this up but a theory I heard this week.

This is a good hire...UF wanted Gates for his connections to Chicago but Florida was also hoping he had the "right" connections...

 
As long as Gates knows he's not allowed to recruit anyone who can make 3 pointers at a 35%+ clip or anyone over 6'9 then he should be fine

 
Glad this is finally "official-official".

Hopefully he can help this team out and add a few other guys to the club. Hunter has big shoes to fill.

 
This is awesome. Hope the next press conference is Copeland and Palmer announcing they are coming back next year!
