Callahan’s passion shines through
Not only did Callahan remember that Nebraska team well, he recalled in vivid detail watching the Huskers dismantle Steve Spurrier-coached Florida in the Fiesta Bowl. Make no mistake, Callahan has an amazing mind for football.
“You know what, I was preparing for an NFL playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys,” he said. “I watched that game in my (hotel) room as we were preparing for our game. I remember Nebraska dominating the game, Tommie Frazier dominating in the option game, breaking tackles, making plays.”
Callahan also remembered Nebraska’s hard-charging defense, and Florida struggling mightily to stave it off.
“It just struck me that Florida was trying a five-man (quarterback) protect – a ’scat’ protect – against a barrage of blitzes and pressures they were getting from the Blackshirts. They couldn’t hold up.”
