Team HuskerBoard
Callahan’s passion shines through

Not only did Callahan remember that Nebraska team well, he recalled in vivid detail watching the Huskers dismantle Steve Spurrier-coached Florida in the Fiesta Bowl. Make no mistake, Callahan has an amazing mind for football.
“You know what, I was preparing for an NFL playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys,” he said. “I watched that game in my (hotel) room as we were preparing for our game. I remember Nebraska dominating the game, Tommie Frazier dominating in the option game, breaking tackles, making plays.”

Callahan also remembered Nebraska’s hard-charging defense, and Florida struggling mightily to stave it off.

“It just struck me that Florida was trying a five-man (quarterback) protect – a ’scat’ protect – against a barrage of blitzes and pressures they were getting from the Blackshirts. They couldn’t hold up.”

Hey former, no disrespect intended here, just a curious question.

Did you ever sway during any other era when the waters got choppy? i.e. Osbornes near ostracizing to CU in '78, rough times in the '80s etc.?? Just wondering if your name used to be formerformerfan. If so maybe you should change it to formerformerformerfan? ;)

No, actually, I supported TO, much like I did FS. I always thought that TO was the right guy for the job, but the 78 incident was a little before my time. I was also one of the few who actually backed Scott Frost when most of the fans (self proclaimed "real fans"??) were booing him at home.

I was kind of naive back in the 80's however, because I started to agree with the faction who wrongfully said that TO needed to change his offense to throw more, to be an NFL style offense (doesnt that sound familiar??). Thankfully, TO never did change his offense, proving that he could win with a ground based attack. Many would say that he is the greatest coach in NUs history. :thumbs

I don't care what anyone says, but anyone who can't remember Jennings as the coach has never experienced much adversity in regards to the football team. '02 and '04 are the 2 worst seasons since the late 50's, so this is unchartered water unless you are in your 50's or 60's or older even. I doubt very many of us have.

*Gasp*

I was at the 95 champ game! It was a blast. We blew them away by like a million.

I bet callahan couldn't name 5 players off that team.
Actually I'm sure he has probably met more then that. He mentioned Tommie, coached Treu, and Benning hangs out at practice. He only needs two more. I'm sure you can send him an e-mail and ask.

why so some assistant secretary can answer me? The point is when he says he knows all about tradition he's full of it imo.

He doesn't need to name 5 guys. You know why? Because they were a team and a team is 1 unit. That's what Callahan is trying to do with this team. Make them a unit. Anyone who decides otherwise is shown the door like Birkle

He knows quality when he sees it. Money talks BS walks Oakland thugs not withstanding. OKAY sorry way too much sake. but the sushi was so good. Naive only counts on the wedding night.

I honestly don't think recruiting the guys he is recruiting is going to do this. Locking guys in locker rooms, etc isn't going to do this. You think Beck is going to be 3rd string for long and stick around? The big 4 and 5 stars aren't usually about team they are about making the nfl.

So...what? he shouldn't recruit 4 and 5 :star guys? That's just idiotic.

I didn't say that, I do think you can have to many. Take a look at the texas's they win quite a few games on talent alone but can't be the good good teams because they don't have will to win like a team made up of great talent, walk ons from nebraska, etc. A detroit pistons and san antiono spurs are great examples. They have a few great players, and alot of good role players that have the will to win.

I'd rather have a problem w/too much talent and win a Rose Bowl than a team with barely any talent and not go to a bowl. BC is righting the ship. To the dismay of a few and the joy of many, he will get it done.
