Does OSU actually claim the 1970 MNC? I thought that was more of a "thanks for the honor but no thanks" kind of thing. Kind of how some lists have Nebraska with 11 "national championships" but we only claim five of them, because the other six have no foundation in reality.

If so, it would make a great trivia question: What college football team was so awesome that they won the national championship despite losing their bowl game?

Texas also claims a national title in 1970, even though they lost their bowl game. The only unbeaten, untied team to claim a MNC in 1970 is....

Arizona State went 10-0 I believe with Frank Kush as the coach. USA today did a "performance index" comparing all the teams and their opponents, similar to what BCS does now, the sun devils were on top of poll/ranking, whatever you wanna call it. But wasnt recognize as an offical poll at that time. Finished 4th in UPI behind a Nebraska/ND/Texas. Many of their fans claim that as their NC, since they were unbeaten/untied. I believe "1970 National Champions" is/was printed somewhere on the Sun Devil Stadium but cant find a picture.

Arkansas State was the D 1-aa National Champs that year also.

I screwed up ASU finish 6th in the AP poll behind Nebraska/ND/Texas/Ohio State/Tennesse. Not 4th in UPI.

My point was, in every one of those years, even with a large graduating/going pro dropoff, we still had the #1 scoring defense in the Big 10. I have no doubt the Husker's defense is good. But I still personally think, ours will be better, even with the large exodus of starters.

2010: OSU 3, Iowa 7, NE 8

2009: NE 2, PSU 4, OSU 5, Iowa 10

2008: PSU 4, OSU 7, Iowa 8

2007: OSU 1, PSU 8, Iowa 15

You forgot Penn State there Coqui. They were better in 2 of the past 4 years. I listed the top 15 for the past 4 years in overall scoring defense. (and yes I went to 15 just so I could get Iowa on there one more time!)

What I want to know is why you guys think you will both be better than Iowa next year. We only lost our entire d-line, one of our linebackers and 2 of our secondary!!! We have at least 4 guys coming back on defense!!! Sheesh, everyone always overlooks us. You would think we were irrelevant.
