Bo and High School Coaches

I respect this person as a man and as a leader of men. Always have.
The other one.......not so much at this point.
Why not Bo?
Because he hasn't won a championship
So that's the penultimate criteria for being a leader of men? Forget the higher graduation rates, forget the increase in academic All-Americans, forget the character of our football team off the field in general (Team Jack). Nope, Bo isn't a leader of men and shouldn't be respected as a coach because his team hasn't won a championship...

I don't even know where to go with this...
The more I read this board, the more I find that EVERYONE has an agenda.

It's hard to NOT have an agenda on a message board.

Right.

It's not like anyone has ever sat down at their keyboard to post with every intention of being wrong. Wifi, Goal-line, and Huskers_99 maybe

I was being sarcastic. It was more of an answer for TTTRA.

I spent 8 years as a Marine recruiter towards the end of the Viet Nam war. I recruited in an area south of Kansas City, Cass and Butler counties. Many losses by Army and Marine forces came from that area. Recruiting had died, total failure, lucky to talk to kids at times.

Started a new idea, sell the counselor on me. Worked with them on all kids thinking about the services. It worked perfectly, a line along what Bo is doing. You do not always have to close the deal to make progress. I think what he is doing is a great idea. He is selling himself, not Nebraska to the kid, but his knowledge, his personality to the guys that have tremendous input in to their kids.

I do not think our recruiting is as good as it could be, but I do feel it is improving. This shows he is thinking out of the box, overcoming blockades by going around them rather than through them.

Just hope he gets the time for it to work for him.
At all the big High SChool Coaches clinics Nationwide- the Marines have a HUGE booth

The Marines also do a Leadership/Management/Motivation presentation- very well done. Usually as well attended as the big presentations by Saban, Meyer, Bellicek etc

Always held in the big room and the one lots of guys look forward to attending, talking about

The Marines also allow ANY HS football coach to attend these 2-3 day leadership camps for free- same ones the kids go to

ALL with the goal of influencing the influencers

There are ZERO kids at these coaching clinics- all done to sell the influencers

Very effective strategy

Same one Bos using

Not everyone is cut out to be a slick salesman

I spoke to a former TO staff member once- who said he felt like a used car salesman when he attended some of the "recruiting training" sales training stuff they had to do. Hated it.

Probably good stuff, but not everyone's an Ed Orgeron, This approach probably fits who Bo is

Talking to the dads of 2 kids Bos recruited, they said he is personable, real and just lays it out there. He lets them know what he's looking for and expecting and what they get in return, a great place to play, and a legitimate chance to compete. He stresses the academics. Face to face he does pretty well, straight forward and trustworthy.

But then Po, I said it wasn't about stats or any other numbers for me in the first sentence of my comment. Maybe you should stick to answering questions for yourself huh?

This is where it being 1 in the morning is troublesome. I totally thought it was not you posting.

I thought graduation rates had actually gone down, rather rapidly, under Pelnii. From 85% to 69% in his tenure, from tops in the nation to middle of the pack Big 10.

Someone on here posted the graphic. Maybe I'm wrong.
