Bo on the Tuesday B1G Conference call - Abdullah's knee, the future of the D Line

The MCL is highly stressed during cutting techniques. When they stated that it was a "mild" MCL sprain....grade 2 immediately popped into my head. Very well could be a grade 1 though...some reasons for optimisim....but we'll find out come game time.

Well sh#t, now I'm worried. How would you describe a Grade 1 sprain? What's more mild than mild?

Usually a Grade 1 means there's little to no instability and no gaps in the knee on the medial side. But a grade 1 strain also means fibers of the ligament tore.
Also, grade 1's usually aren't braced, so now we have something to watch for!

As for reinjury.....well it's a bent leg injury, so it's going to be tender obviously being a running back. Its just touch and go until it recovers, if you come back too quickly.....well all bets are off.

If it's grade 2 he's done until the CCG. At least he should be.

If AA misses the Wisky game im hoping we find a way to get the ball in Pierson Els hands at least 12-15 times. Now I don't mean we need to get him 2 or 3 trick plays but something within the offense. Wr screens or something of that nature. The guy has vision with the ball in his hands similar to AA.

A grade 1 sprain is pretty much microfiber tears of the ligament tissue. Grade 1 can heal fully in 2 weeks, can take longer based on a whole host of factors.

I concur...at least 4 weeks...and that's pushing it IMO...depends on the case and therapy though...hopefully it's just a grade 1, but when he couldn't cut on it in the game, it got me worried. He pulled up immediately on that leg...

I wasn't too concerned with losing Alexander for the season because I thought Gerry would fill in adequately. Dare I say he's been an upgrade? Yes, I think I'll say it. He's been an upgrade. Don't agree? Tough titties.

If I ever have knee problems I'm going to forego the doctor and just consult you guys. Damn you guys know a lot about this.

Pelini said the senior running back is "doing great" and the MCL sprain suffered against Purdue is a "lot lesser degree" as the MCL injury that sidetracked a good portion of Rex Burkhead's season in 2012.
From LJS article earlier today.

edit: Does this mean it is grade 1 then? Or can we not know without specifics of Burkhead's injury?

Well...I have a PTA(Physical Thrapist Assistant) degree with an inactive license right now since I am not practicing....

And I have a Bachelor's with a concentration in Exercise Science. I don't know what Polo does, but I can tell ya my current job is in inventory control and procurement....nothing related to my degrees lol. Maybe someday I'll pracTice PT. I do enjoy it...and miss it.

I've helped Zrod a bit before....I'll do what I can to answer questions...but others can definitely chime in because I don't have all the answers...from my professional perspective, when Abdullah planted and immediately let up on his injured limb, I got a bit worried.
