Bo Pelini Dream Team

I agree with most of your team...

Burkhead over Helu
Huh? Roy was the best back we've had in a decade.
Well, I think Rex is the best back we've had in a decade.....
Based on what exactly? Roy had better statistics in almost every category and Rex didn't have to carry the load in the 2009 turtle offense.
Rex just gets the job done. Also, there were instances during Helu's senior year where Rex was the better running back.... as a sophomore....

Umm...lol Yeah. I realize this board should be subtitled Huskerboard/We Love Taylor Martinez so yeah. Not everyone loves T Magic. Don't get offended because it's not personal but dude will go down for me at least as easily, easily the #1 most overrated Husker of all time. I know, I know 'but his stats!!!!'. I've been a Husker fan ever since I could walk but wow. Pelini tunnel vision=Four years of not even a sniff of any sort of national title hopes. None. None.....
What do you think is the bigger factor in the bold, Martinez as our QB or our defense?

Yeah I knew someone would address that and of course it's not all Taylor but in a sense his ability to lead the nation in turnovers has hugely affected....our defense. It's a whole other discussion for me anyway as to the importance of a quarterback in terms of a football team and for me anyway and again this is just me...a QB who can't hold on to the football and turns the ball over consistently albeit leads the nation in turnovers for 3 straight years guarantees himself of at least splitting time with someone in my eyes. At least seeing what other options look like. That never happened. Didn't even come close to happening. Instead keep Taylor in there and wait for the 'big run' which happened periodically. In the grand scheme of things Nebraska has not moved forward with this mindset.

One could argue Taylor wouldn't have to take as many chances if he had a competent defense to back him up.

True but do you think the coaches would let him take those chances if our defense was better? It seems our offense is centered around the short to intermediate passing game which it would seem is tailored towards his strengths as a passer.

Back to the discussion at hand Joe Ganz was 'the man' imo as someone posted above before. He was the face of that Nebraska offense and luckily he had some pretty good receivers at the time too. He kept his turnovers low and was as gutsy and tough as any QB we've ever had here. I've always been a big JG fan and I love seeing him still on our sidelines too.

I can see what you're saying. But I'm not going to be glad he's gone - because the odds are more in favor of us having someone far less capable than far more. (sounds like the Bo Pelini firing argument huh haha!)

I'm definitely not a Taylor lover, but far from a hater as well - the turnovers are of particular concern to me as too however. I think he snuffs the issue this year, and you'll change your mind some. However, if he doesn't - then he could go down as a very overrated QB.

I can "course manage" my golf game and pretty consistently shoot a 78. However, a more aggressive approach and I can get down to a 73-75...but frequently shoot an 85 as well. That's Taylor. Me personally - with Beck's offense and our weapons at the skill positions - I'd rather the manager was under center. Not everyone feels that way. The argument isn't always about Taylor, it's basis is rooted in the type of QB people want at Nebraska. And "manager" doesn't have to mean "pass happy" - which is another confusion shared by many of the Taylor lovers.

Well said Chris. If he could get those turnovers down this year yes. That would be huge. Huge. It's the guys 4th year. One would think that this would be his most consistent yet. Again it's not personal so am I rooting for that? Abso freaking lutely. I want to see it happen though and it needs to happen this year.

Taylor Martinez has never led the nation in turnovers.
fumbles - don't be picky - everyone, including the die-hard Taylor fans (and Taylor himself) knows that he turns the ball over too much.

I'm not being picky, I'm being committed to what's actually true. He's led the nation in fumbles - not in turnovers, and not in fumbles lost.

Fun fact - Taylor's fumbles per carry ratio is better than Eric Crouch's.
