Bo's Big 12 record against Conference Top 25 teams is 4 - 6, 2 of the losses being the Big 12 championship games against Texas and Oklahoma. As for Big 10 record against Conference Top 25 teams, its 3 - 4, 1 being the loss to Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship game.

As for his Non-Conference Top 25 record, Bo is 2 - 6. Those 2 wins coming from bowl games. Bo Pelini has never won against a non-conference Top 25 team during the regular season. But then again, disregarding the bowl games, Bo has played the Huskers against 24 non-conference games, and only 3 of them the opponent was ranked in the Top 25. UCLA being two of them.

The only times we've played ranked OOC opponents have been:

2009 Va Tech - Loss

2009 Arizona - Win

2010 South Carolina - Loss

2012 Georgia - Loss

2013 UCLA - Loss

2013 Georgia - Win

People seem to be bagging on 9-14 as being bad, or at best, mediocre. I'm not so sure about that. Oh, it's not great. But it's not bad either. Maybe even a bit better than mediocre. Most of the coaches listed have a losing record against ranked opponents. Only 8 coaches have a winning record in their current gig versus ranked opponents. ( 12 have winning career records). And 53 have losing records in their current job, with 8 ties including several 0-0. (Career wise, 51 have losing records.) That puts Bo's 9-14 somewhat above the middle of the pack. Someplace between mediocre and great. Perhaps a B- in report card terms. So sure, there's plenty of room for improvement. But it's not like we've sucked in these past few years of the Pelini era.

Another thing to consider is that there are six current job 0-0 records. All new guys in the current job. You gotta figure that most of the coaches they replaced would have had among the crappiest records on that chart.

Especially when you lob him into the mix of the same coaches on that list that have coached in the same career total that he has. Coaches that went against Top 25 teams 20 to 25 times in their career, only Clemson coach Swinney and Utah coach Whittingham have a better percentage than him, and its not by much.

Pelini has certainly had his hiccups, but I've believed when roughly compared to his peers he's done very well. When his name was put on alleged "hot seat" lists last season, his winning percentage was far above all the others on the list. Even going into this season, several publications have highlighted the 9+ win totals......but what I think is most impressive is Pelini is the only one on the list who took over a team with a losing record the previous season.

It's been mentioned already, but I only notice a few coaches who are above .500: Nick Saban, Les Miles, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, and Steve Spurrier, David Shaw, Brian Kelly, Gus Malzahn, Jumbo Fisher, and Chris Peterson. Those are your "elite coaches" right now in college football. But with the exception of David Shaw and Gus Malzahn, a lot of these coaches are well into their coaching careers. Bo's approaching this point, and this season would be as good as any to start reversing that record.
