Bye Week #2 Pressers

And I know it wasn't popular at the time, and still isn't.  But this is the mentality that I think of, when I say that certain parts of the Husker fan base are not helping this program get any better.  If it hasn't gotten better over 3-4 coaching staffs, and countless administrations and players.  At some point, we have to look at the common denominators to everything.  One of those things being the fans. Not all of them, just a very vocal minority.
I agree with common denominators, those being boosters/former players and coaches, people in the University who are no doubt impeding forward progress.  The fans are not the problem however, that is just silly.  The only thing the fans are guilty of is providing too much support, and not being willing to walk away form this constant failure.  Every fanbase has loud/annoying/constantly unhappy fans, just go read Ohio State or Alabama boards right now.  Schools succeed despite negative fans.

Take away the fan support from this program and see what happens.  We would be absolutely done at that point removing the last good thing about this program.

When the team wins, fans are happy. When the team loses games it's favored to win (over and over), fans are obviously upset.

So you're saying that the program will get better if nobody gets upset when we continue to have under-performing, dumpster fire seasons? That such thing will be some kind of a catalyst to the team actually getting better?

That doesn't make sense to me.

This will be my last post on this, because obviously my intent is not coming across properly.

I mean the fans that literally b!^@h about everything, all the time.  The ones that you wonder why they continue to do what they do.  The Nebraska fan base seems to have an extra ordinary amount of these types of fans.  And they are VERY vocal.  For example that Husker Juan guy for a few years ago.  That is a toxic fan.  There are more out there than most other programs.  And yes I understand all high profile organization have these folks.  For whatever reason we seem to have way more of them.

I'm not talking about the 98% of the "normal" fans that exist out there.  The ones that get grumpy and voice their displeasure, or the ones that have shown up for years in contributions and attendance.

Where other programs might have, say 100 of these toxic fans.  We seem to have 2,000 of them, and they can cause a ruckus by the pure volume of crap they spew directly to players, coaches and admins.

That is what I'm trying to say, and if it still isn't coming across then, so be it.

And just for clarification I'm not even remotely saying what the one former player was saying on X after last week.  My point is not even close to whatever point he was trying to make.

I follow you and agree we have more but it is simply because we have more fans in general.  Where we disagree is the idea that those fans have some kind of an impact on what we see on the field.  These kids have been dealing with crap on social media their entire life- it is nothing new to them.  The coaches have all been experiencing this for years as well.  You know MR took all kinds of heat in the NFL.  Satt was absolutely roasted at SC... etc.  Even the greatest coach we had took heat for years - https://vault.si.com/vault/1991/05/06/looser-in-lincoln-under-fire-for-failing-to-win-the-big-games-coach-tom-osborne-has-finally-decided-to-open-up-nebraskas-ultraconservative-offense

Then why is anyone upset about what he has said?  You are correct, there isn't anything he says that is going to make Husker fans happy.  He has explained actions that he is taking to try to help the offense.  I get it that Husker fans aren't happy with that.  So.....why listen to the press conference if there isn't anything he could have said to make you happy?
You're right. Following this team and coach is a waste of time.

The problems this team has are not one dimensional. We have serious coaching issues as I don’t believe Satt and Foley are competent at their job but we also have serious player issues. We have talented players yet they consistently underperform. I have yet to see a true TEAM EFFORT where the entire team comes together with a common purpose. It feels like three different teams. The defense feels like they are carrying the team, the offense has no identity whatsoever, and our special teams are a joke at best. The players need to come together and truly play like a team and not put blame on any unit or any individual. There are so many teams out there with much less talent that manage to play for one another. You can’t convince me that Georgia Tech has more talent than us yet we cannot rise to the occasion and they just beat the number 4 team in the nation. We have fundamental team issues that have not been fixed by any coach we hired since Bo Pelini. I know people hate it when I mention Bo but players would run through a wall for that guy. I don’t think they respect Rhule or any of his coaches and the result shows on the field.

Our next three games are all winnable yet this team will find a way to miss on a bowl yet another time. It is not just coaching, it is both coaching and players lacking clear leaders that motivate the team.

You 'member what Bo's offense looked like in his second year? I 'member.

If those damn fans would shut up we would tackle better, not have missed assignments, block better, Raiola would start seeing open receivers, game management and coaches game planning would get better. Hell we shouldn’t have fired Riley. He was just held back by bad fans. Same for Frost- the poor guy would have succeeded if fans would have accepted his mediocrity.

But how do you guys know we have more of them bad fans? You guys spend all your time in husker message boards. Not other teams boards. So how can anyone say they know we have more when we have no clue what happens at other schools.

How would you have any idea if any of us are on other fan boards?  I know several on here that either have accounts on other team boards or at minimum read their boards on occasion.

I enjoy reading other teams boards. I also watch a ton of college football, especially the rest of the B1G and SEC. We are very tame compared to some other fan bases, and give way more grace to coaches and players.  Also, other teams have to deal with media that actually asks tough questions.

I'm pretty sure that Husker fans that read Husker fan boards are a tiny minority among the overall fanbase, let alone ones who read other teams' boards.

What does that have to do with the conversation?  The point is some do so they have an idea what other fan bases are like.
