That would be GREAT news!(and Bill Callahan will be gone after this season).
Pud and Frankie were only together for the 03 season. Maybe if Solich would of put more effort in recruiting he would still be here. Callahan isn't going anywhere.IMOIf Pud would have put as much effort into the program when FS was still here, maybe we would have gotten better recruits? What are your thoughts on this?
Well, it's not really Pederson's fault, since he was only at NU for one Solich season. On this note, I agree with ff. If Callahan is fired, Pealman and Pud will be gone as well. If BC quits to go back to the NFL, then probably Pearlman keeps his job but I think Pud still gets the axe.
What came first the chicken or the egg? If Pud would have put as much effort into the program when FS was still here, maybe we would have gotten better recruits? What are your thoughts on this?
Like I said above:Unless our Texas born linemen of the early 90's were lying to me (Aaron Graham and Aaron Taylor), I was led to believe Solich did most of the recruiting back then. In the late 80's early 90's, NU was one of the best if not the best weight room, facilities, etc. in the country. I was told by primarily linemen because they were the only ones who took classes out on East Campus that Solich did 90% of the recruting visits.
So, if they were telling me the truth, he must have been decent at recruiting at sometime in his career. My question is this: if the money would have been thrown at the program while Solich was still there would we have gotten more of the blue chip athletes. Remember, blue chip athletes aren't just QB's. I'm talking TE's, RB's, Linemen, DB's, etc. We have several Linemen and DB's in the pros now. I know we probably wouldn't have ever landed a real blue chip QB because most option QB's aren't thought of as blue chippers. If we'd have gotten the better athletes, would it have mattered? And if the answer is yes to these questions, then I believe we are all mushrooms.
While facilites are a big factor, other factors are the enthusiasm of the coaches doing the actual recruiting, the type of offense run, and early playing time. While better facilities would have helped, I don't think that those alone would have made huge improvements in the classes. All the elite programs have great facilities, so it's up to the staff to sell the program for other reasons as well. That means staff that live and breath recruiting, which I don't believe was the case for the members of Solich's staff.Like I said above:
If Frank had the facilities that we are installing now, If Byrne had not let the facilities slip so far, Frank would have gotten many more "Blue Chip" athletes. Players want fancy weightrooms and lockerrooms. We have not had that for the last 5+ years.
Exactly. Weightrooms, lockers are all nice and dandy, but if a recruit is going to come here and sit 2 years on the bench and not see any playing time unless it's mop up duty, then they look elsehwere. That's one problem Solich had. He RARELY ever played freshman. The only guys that come to mind are Fabian Washington, the Bullock twins and Ritchie Incognito. While facilites are a big factor, other factors are the enthusiasm of the coaches doing the actual recruiting, the type of offense run, and early playing time.
