Conspiracy Theory Number 4,567,932

Broderick made the comment yesterday that he believes people were brought in to sabotage the NU football program. While I don't agree with that statement, I do agree with the idea that Pederson is as much to blame for the current state of affairs as the coaches and players. I also agree with Broderick's statement that there needs to be some coaches who KNOW what Husker football is like guys who have played for Nebraska and know what it means to be a Blackshirt.

So my conspiracy theory question(s) is this: Do you think Pederson would ever let a former player from the Devaney/Osborne/Solich era be a coach on today's team? The guys on 1620 mentioned Mike Minter should be the secondary coach (which I think would be awesome as would Broderick being the LB coach) And, do you think Pederson would like nothing more than to see the Blackshirt tradition disappear?

My theory? Yes, I think Pederson would like to see the Blackshirt tradition disappear especially since it's the last remaining memory of days gone by. But I also think Pederson isn't stupid enough to make that happen knowing Husker Nation would rise up and throw his a$$ outta town, contract extension or no.
I hate the phrase "conspiracy theory." Often it's used when there is a very real conspiracy going on, but the phrase itself works to debunk a theory without actually addressing any of the issues. Anyway, I don't think that this is a conspiracy with the goals that you state, but I think it has transformed into that. I think that Pederson thought he could make a *new* tradition (hence the badmouthing the then-outgoing staff-- you know, the comments about not surrendering the big 12, not slipping into mediocrity, etc.). But what he has done is exactly what he didn't want to do and now he has to cover his a$$. He's trying to distance himself from the old program so as to not draw direct comparisons, because those aren't going to turn out well. This is a "new" program with "new" traditions so keep those other ones away. I don't think he set out to destroy anything, but his formula for success isn't working out and he's driving a wedge between the new and the old.

Also, have Minter and Thomas ever coached? What are their credentials for coaching here?
well what coaching experience did Tom Osborne have before he was brought in as a Grad Assistant by Devaney?

None, he had just been cut from the 49er's or Redskins, and got the experience on the job.

whos to say that any of these guys couldnt learn as a GA

You know, while I don't buy into the whole conspiracy angle, I wouldn't at all be shocked if it were true.

Remember, Disney Corp. (who owns ESPN and ABC) cringe whenever they have to cover us because we're not worth their time and money--their constant attacks and ugliness toward the Nebraska program on their various media channels reinforces this thought. So what better way to not have to deal with Nebraska than by making sure they're an also-ran from here on out...

And yes, I know it's not true. I'm just saying I wouldn't be shocked if this was found out to be the truth down the road. Companies like Disney and Belo Corp. are just pure evil.

I rather see Marvin Sanders comeback as secondary coach and would never think of hiring Broderick Thomas the guy can never shutup. As for the conspiracy theory of Pederson planning I very much doubt it. He could never have planned it this well.

Very very interesting take on things. I honestly hadn't viewed it in that regard but it does seem to be plausible.

Sorry...I forgot...I won't let it happen again

In yesterday's interview with Broderick, the last question the DJ asked was "Do you still have keys to the house?" and Broderick's answer was "Yes...well...Pederson changed the locks". He also mentioned something earlier in the interview about former players not being given access to current players.
As for Will Shields, he could have gotten on the field simply because he was a former player. But that doesn't necessarily give him access to speak with the players though.
IIRC Callahan said of Shields' visit that he did not speak directly to the players. He was there the whole week and at the game but I'm pretty sure he did not have direct contact with any players. Callahan was asked what Shields had said to the O-Line and his reply was "he didn't speak directly to them." Callahan also said they got to hear him at one of his speeches.
This was posted in the "Broderick Thomas' comments" thread.

:hmmph

So I guess it begs the question then: Who is telling the truth? Callahan or former players?

yes, cally must keep out the old infectious Nebraska players (real Blackshirts) out of the locker room.

Well, Thomas said he thought there was a conspiracy to bring in people to trash the Husker (sabotage the program, whatever) tradition. If he believes that crock of sh#t, he'll believe anything. No doubt he thinks the moon landings were faked, too. Anything he says is suspect.

So...what other evidence is there that former players are being denied access to players. Links?

when was the last time you saw a former Husker on the sidelines at a game? USC had several when they came here to play. this is old crap, been discussed a thousand times, cally won't let ex Huskers come on the sidelines during games, sez it is too much a distraction, more bullsh#t!

Having Thomas on the sideline would be too much distraction. And after listening to his crazy conspiracy rant, it is no wonder he isnt invited to events. Would you invite someone to a party you were throwing if all that person was going o do is rant about you and do everything he can to get you fired from your job? I wouldnt. For all the talk of not welcoming former players, there seems to be a lot of honoring them at halftime of games. Notice that the players who want to coach and AD fired are the ones not invited.

Again, link please? I'd just like to see a news article or something about Callahan denying former players (in general, not specific idiots) access to the current team. And denying them access doesn't just mean denying them access to the field during a game.
