DB Coach Prospects

Does Minter have any coaching experience?
33-4 as a HS coach in Concord, NC. Coached at Johnson C Smith in Charlotte, NC. 10 yrs starting safey for the Panthers, all pro etc..... Has ties to ACC country (plus for NU ie Clowney, Latimore, #1 rated QB or RB from Raleigh that went to UGA). Guy would be a big splash hire for sure. Character guy for sure. Hope it happens.
Didn't everybody complain the last time that we hired a high school football coach? I guess with Minter being a Nebraska alum, we wouldn't hear much about it this time.

All of those things are great, but the bolded one is the only one that really matters, and like you stated, it is questionable. If Bo thinks he is the right guy for the job, that's fine. Just don't bank on it.

Fish actually was a bright spot this year considering we only returned Kinnie with a catch. The fact we could even line up 3 receivers on the field was a testament to his coaching!

My issues with the receivers was more along the lines of "who played" rather than how.

Again, it is a position coach, that he (Minter) played extremely well at NU and excelled at the next level for 10 yrs. He has, IIRC, moved to Lincoln to get bis son more exposure so I think he would stay. Also could trust what he says. He is of the old forgotten school where your word actually means something. This loyalty would fit in well with Bo. I am sure that Brown and TO could vouch for him as well.

Mike Sr. hasn't ever moved. Junior lives with relatives. Yes he is loyal, a great former player, and a HELL of a community guy, but the lack of experience at the college level is concerning. Fisher had way better "college experience" coaching at Idaho, Colorado, and Okie Lite.

As wit any move on the staff, who knows what Bo will do

That is the one constant with his staff since 2008. Who knows what Bo will do. I have not been the biggest fan in regards to some of his recent picks, but being one of a handful of teams to have won 9 games for the last four years means he has done something right ( for the record, personally not satisfied) so he seems to get this odd collection of folks on the same page.

At least it gives us good discussions until the spring game and practice.

What? That's just a big list of things that aren't significant coaching experience. How does that translate into "big splash hire" & "no brainer"?

Former NFL STAR, NU Blackshirt, has AGAIN LIMITED coaching experience, most fans would enjoy seeing a former Husker great come back to the Huskers.

What things are significant? Oh that's right experience. How and where do you get this? That's right, someone allows you a shot. A lot of good Rayond did us, and Gilmore, Cally and Wats etc....... Sometimes you have to go with potential or perceived abilities instead of the black and white that a guy has coached ex number of years.

The issue most had with Fish is that his relevant experience was what...8-10 years prior. He had 2 years HS coaching and a lot of golf experience...and he ran some football camps. Anyone is going to question a gap like that...and one that took him almost completely out of football. There were questions around motivation, and drive. Going from owning a business and coaching HS in the afternoons to grinding 16 hour days, traveling the nation trying to convince parents that Nebraska is better than USC isn't an easy job - and it's not something people likely easily transition in and out of.

Minter lacks experience - which is certainly something I question frequently on here. But IMO the experience should be in the coordinator roles, and that ship has sailed. Minter (to me anyway) seems like a very high character guy. He's got a very impressive resume even if it doesn't include much coaching. His biggest value to this program I believe will be on the recruiting trail. If people lack such concern about the DB opening because Bo is more than capable to coaching them too...then they should have no problem with Minter since (as most people on here believe) Bo will be the one really coaching the DBs anyway. (little sarcasm there)

What about Scott Frost? Played a little DB in the league, he has been coaching for a while, he is credited for landing the "Black Mamba" at Oregon, & a connection to the best era of Husker Football....

Oh and by the way this is my first post from a longtime lurker.... GBR!!!

From Youngstown Ohio - Unchecked.

Sorry Mike, you were nearly qualified in all other areas, but the Youngstown connection is the most important part of the application. I hear Joe Orduna might be looking for a job?

What if he hears that the NCAA rumors are true and the hammer is gonna get dropped on Oregon?

Of course, that might change things, but given the ponderous timetable of the NCAA, I doubt anything concrete will be known in time for this opening............
