951, you are talking about guys that played LB at 205, over 10 years ago!!! Its not 1995! I am willing to take any bet that Culbert will not be playing LB. He was recruited for the secondary and he will stay there. I have never once heard the coaches mention anything about there even being a chance to move him to LB.
Oh yeah, I totally agree…It’s not 1995 any more (or 1997). And those little 205 pound linebackers who played for the Huskers during the five year span where we won three national titles and only lost three games … they just wouldn’t make it in today’s version of college football. You know, College football these days has no room for players who blitz like they are on fire and hit like Mack trucks. You know the guys I’m talking about, little 205 pounds linebackers who are sure tacklers and can still drop into pass coverage with a wide receiver, you know, the guys that blitz so fast that there is no running back quick enough to pick it up (let alone a poor tackle or tight end), you know the kind of guys who regularly make plays against talented teams like Miami, Oklahoma, CU, K-State, Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, UCLA, Washington etc. Yeah, you are right, we could never find a place on the roster for a guy like T-Far, or Jamel Williams, or Eric Johnson, or Tony Ortiz…Yeah, guys like that would be of no use to us these days. I mean really, the players have gotten SOOOO much bigger in the past 10 years. We beat up on the Florida’s and the Miami’s of the world back then, and of course we put the wood to Peyton Manning, but none of those teams had any linemen over 325 or so pounds, linemen these days must go a good 450-500 pounds. And of course, the running backs back then, they were puny too. I mean, guys like Jamaal Lewis…what a midget! Yeah, I agree, we have no place for linebackers like the ones we had in the `90s. :sarcasm Acually insert sarcasm throughout this whole post. I still can't believe there are people on here who think the talent has gotten so much better in the past 10 years. The fact is, with scholarship limits, there are few teams top to bottom as talented as the ones we played even 10 years ago. And, speed, now more than ever, is the most important thing on defense.
