Do we have a really good coordinator for a head coach?

Bo is a really good defensive coordinator. Look what he did his first year as our coordinator under Solich. Look what he did at Oklahoma. Look what he did at LSU. All great jobs as coordinator. But look what happens when he has to choose a staff, run the team, oversee recruiting....it has not been pretty. I really like Bo a lot and I really want him to be successful. I am just not sure if we will ever be more than a 9-10 win team that always loses big/important games and always has that one game where we lose to someone we shouldn't lose to.

I guess my biggest concern is he's not willing to allow the defensive coordinator to run the defense that he wants. It's gonna be Bo's way or else they won't get the job. He needs to let that go, the 2-gap isn't working, work with the talent you have and simplify the defense for the personnel we have. You can't run it.....................simple as that! If we lose Bo right now, no one will come here and this program will be in the tank for the next 10 to 15 years.

Depends on how the season goes. We end at 7-5, 6-6, or worse, getting another guy would not be a problem, but we need to open the damned check book. This program is top 10 in money, and we pay middling in our conference. the only way we end up with the worry you have is if he somehow wins 9 games or more this season(which, right now, we have a snowball's chance in hell of doing)

I am not calling for Bo's head. I am just frustrated once again after a disapointing loss and wondering how long I will have to live with this frustration. I want Bo to do better. Maybe he will grow. This is his first head coaching job...I just want him to come around sooner rather than later.

We have an overrated coordinator and a piss poor head coach. Bo was good in 2003 because McBrides last recruiting class was seniors, (not to mention a really easy schedule) and he does well with other coaches recruited players (Saban, Stoops, Callahan) but now he has his players, with his yes men as assistants.

He would have to bomb like Callahan did in 2007 to be fired this year, but if he doesn't win a conference title in the next two years, he needs to be gone. The reason is that the longer he stays, the more in the hole we will become with his bad recruiting and poor player development. IMO every coach deserves to have at least 6 years because he won't truly have "his" team until year 5. We all saw how Frank failed in year 5, and it looks like Bo is in the process of doing the same.

What we really don't need is TO to have any input on Bo's replacement, he's failed the school twice, just retire and enjoy your golden years Tom.

I don't think you're calling for Bo's head at all...................and while I hope Bo grows I further want the old Bo back! I liked that fire, didn't care, because it transferred to a physical team on the field. I don't want a priest on the sideline.

HAHA! We are in the tank right now.

we need our players to trade in jerseys and such for tattoos. then someone needs to tell bo, but he needs to ignore it. then ???. then urban meyer will be our coach.

its a double sided sword though. like in another thread somebody was saying... a current LSU player didn't want to come to nebraska because our coach is "kind of crazy." just sayin.

so he should call us maybe?

I am going to throw this question out there, and you all can feel free to go either direction on this one (I'm just curious as to what the majority of the answers will be):

Would Nebraska and Bo specifically be better off if Bo was our Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator and we didn't have John Papuchis as a defensive coordinator in title only? My point being if we didn't have Papuchis, that would allow Bo to be THE defensive coordinator, and then the fans would know who was calling those plays. More importantly it would open up a coaching vacancy either for another offensive line coach or a true QB coach, or veteran special teams coach? Don't get me wrong I like Papuchis a lot. He seems like a very nice guy, he is a proven solid recruiter, and he will grow as a defensive coordinator in time.

I guess what I am saying is, hypothetically if Nebraska had an open assistant coaching vacancy, what side of the ball would you want that coach to be on specifically?

You get what you pay for. We went cheap with hope. We have to be willing to stand behind him for awhile yet. I only wish he had the ability to hire for the good of the progrtam, rather than fitting into his idea of what should work, IE yes man. Until he allows his assitants the right to do their job, freeing him up to do his job, well at least learn how to do his job this is going to continue. The greatest error he made was not going after Stoops, if he had, his life would have been easier.

Again that might have been Tom again staying the cheap ship, and not allowing us to pay the going rate of a top OC or DC.

I am not sure where I stand on that.

I agree things need to change, but firing Bo is not the answer at this time. But if we continue to see teams not prepared, coaches not making timely and good changes during the game, kids not knowing what they are supposed to do. We have to consider what our options are and what we are willing to take. There are many out there that do not like Bo, for many reasons. There voices are being heard at the University, trust me, I know, I got a letter two weeks ago.

But I am tired of the kids being blamed for these games. There is only one responsible for where we are at and that is the Head Coach. Lay the blame where it belongs. Bo is overpaid, under performing, somewhat an eyesore for this program. He does great things here and I think basically a good guy. But he is not qualified to be a head coach at Nebraska. He has to get better, in his recruting, his hiring and his media image. Allthough he handled a tough game very well with the media. That is a plus in my books. I expected a much angrier Bo than what we saw last night. I saw frustration, hurt, disbelief and disappointment. All deserved, but handled better than in the past.

I don't know that he is a really good coordinator. Maybe . . . so long as someone else does the recruiting for him.

Really? One loss and we are in the tank? This has to be the definition for irrational thinking? Apparently you weren't around for the Callahan years!
