Dylan Raiola

Serious question.......

What is an NFL ready arm? .......You look good in drills?

What throws does he make, or has made, that lead people to believe he's a NFL QB? I think of deep routes (fades and outs). He's shown some improv abilities on short throws but he typically needs time to do these things.
It seems like processing speed to get the ball out quickly is priority #1. Without it, all the arm talent in the world won't be worth much when QB is laying on his back. I think it's become obvious that DR's processing speed isn't very good at this point.

I am of the opinion that an NFL ready brain is more important. You gotta be able to throw the ball, sure, but that is far more common than being quick enough to play in the NFL. There are only about 10-15 guys who can do it pretty well any given year.

Dylan Raiola: Louisville
The former five-star recruit has an NFL-ready arm and enough of a track record through two seasons to receive interest from virtually every Power Four program in the market for a new starter. But he’s not a fit across the board: Raiola needs to be protected because of his lack of mobility, and would work best in a tempo- and timing-based scheme that maximizes his ability to diagnose coverages. He’s also likely to stay with an Adidas-branded school, though offers from Miami or Oregon could lead to a change of heart. Playing for a quarterback guru in Cardinals coach Jeff Brohm would help Raiola unlock his potential.
While I can't understand how Louisville would prepare him better, I took a look at Louisville's schedule next year and it is primed for a breakout if the pieces fall correctly. Non-con games against two rebuilding SEC schools in Kentucky & Ole Miss and conference games against the weaker side of the ACC (i.e. - No Miami, Notre Dame, or Clemson). If they get the right pass protectors and playmakers, Dylan could tear apart teams on that schedule and position himself as a high draft pick in '27.

Thank you HCMR for reiterating that we have a very competent QB in TJ Lateef, a QB that WANTS to play for Nebraska.. Some have forgotten...

We really don't know where TJ's head is at. Freshman and Sophomore Dylan Raiola said all the right things, too. If Dylan doesn't transfer and TJ is looking at maybe two more years on the bench, is he the guy entering the portal right now? For that matter, could TJ still enter the portal given that Rhule is shopping for a starter-ready portal QB who will still keep him on the bench?

I have a hard time believing Dylan is being asked to leave. Now he may be being asked to do some things differently and might be told he has to continue competing for his spot, but he has a roster spot here if he WANTS to play for Nebraska.
I don't think he was ever asked to leave just MR had a heart to heart and like you said told him that we are opening the qb room up bc we want our qb's to be able to run and so Dylan took that as my skill set isn't right for what the coaches want or need. I don't think that Dylan would just bail and say I don't want to be here anymore for no reason.

I think Dylan WANTS to play for Nebraska too just think that MR and DH want a qb that can run or be a threat with their legs and so this is why he is transferring going in a different direction on offense.

I don't think you bend over backwards to the Raiola family if you always preferred a dual threat QB over a pro-style QB. The Dylan Raiola who completed 70% of his passes and benefitted from an All-American RB handling the running threat is a great offense to have. It just didn't translate into enough wins for a variety of reasons.

The armchair psychologist in me thought Dylan's reaction to his season-ending injury seemed oddly.......calm? Relaxed? Maybe even relieved? As though it made what he planned to do a little easier.

I think that is the thing they didn't realize they wanted or preferred a run qb and the coaches just went with the flow of things.

HCMR told the Raiola's that Dylan gets no more special treatment. He will have to compete in the spring for QB #1. It was also said that Uncle Donnie agreed. Sounds like uncle and nephew got into it a few times on the sideline. Donnie being let go had nothing to do with Dylan leaving.

I think it had more to do with Dom than Donnie. I've also heard that at least some of the players were less than enamored with Dylan's attitude and leadership style...

If you listen to Mike'l Severe, he was very critical. He thought it was all an act.

Another media guy, I am not sure who, said Dylan spent his first year going to everything and acting more like a HS kid, because he never got to enjoy the normal HS stuff as a kid.

I think the coaches were very excited about what a five-star pro-style quarterback could bring to Nebraska and shaped the offense around him. Pretty sure they were willing to keep doing that. "The flow of things" was a season-ending injury to Dylan, thrusting TJ Lateef into starting quarterback where they barely featured his running threat at all. That was followed by Dylan leaving the team as was likely the Raiola's plan before the injury. Harder to imagine Rhule approaching either the healthy or injured Dylan and telling him they wanted a more dual-threat option, forcing the portal upon him.
