Dylan Raiola

I don't think you bend over backwards to the Raiola family if you always preferred a dual threat QB over a pro-style QB. The Dylan Raiola who completed 70% of his passes and benefitted from an All-American RB handling the running threat is a great offense to have. It just didn't translate into enough wins for a variety of reasons.

Unfortunately he didn't get to enjoy the All-American RB as much as he should have. Because we really weren't using him like an All-American during the first half of the season (for the most part). Although, to be fair, it's also possible if not likely that Raiola was checking to pass plays and/or choosing the "P" in the RPO a significant portion of the time. Including on the play he got hurt, according to reports.

The armchair psychologist in me thought Dylan's reaction to his season-ending injury seemed oddly.......calm? Relaxed? Maybe even relieved? As though it made what he planned to do a little easier.

I honestly don't think he knew it was season-ending at first. He looked to me like he thought it was just a sprain and he was trying to loosen it up and go back in.

Here's a question I don't recall seeing: Should Dylan and the Raiola family have a change of heart and want to return for 2026, like Emmett Johnson did last year, would Husker fans accept him (and presumably Dayton) to return?

Absolutely. I really think that a junior year Dylan could be a very good player.

Our fan base seems to largely have a subconscious preset for wanting true dual threat QB's and just can't handle it if we don't have one. Not everybody, but a lot of people seem to.

I am in the camp of whatever. Take him or leave him. I would cut down his "salary" though. Nothing is guaranteed in this CFB world.

However, that would have to happen in the next week. We may already be on to someone new.

He's not going to be here next year brother.

The speculation i've seen is he was told he'd have to compete for his gig come the fall. After watching Rhule and Holgersen pressers I get the impression they are not surprised or concerned. Their responses are very consistent.

Total speculation here....but they know they need a different skill set and DR made the decision easier for them. They now have to use a different guy.

I don't think this is accurate. I obviously can only speak for myself, but I don't think we need a dual threat QB. We certainly need one that can move out of the way of one guy and extend a play. We need someone that take a green pasture and get a first down. DR can't do that. Some mobility vs no mobility would be a significant improvement.

I think Dylan WANTS to play for Nebraska too just think that MR and DH want a qb that can run or be a threat with their legs and so this is why he is transferring going in a different direction on offense.
If Dylan wanted to play for Nebraska he would be staying.. He was told the the offense will be changing and he would have to compete and he chose not to..

I think it had more to do with Dom than Donnie. I've also heard that at least some of the players were less than enamored with Dylan's attitude and leadership style...
I've heard many things.. bottom line is the university and the team are better off now that they are unshackled from Dominic.

This very likely is a bridges burned situation. However, posing the question never hurts and given the board's reactions over the past several days, I'd be curious to see where most land on it. I suspect most would be in the indifference category at this point. I wonder how much of the 'not a good leader/teammate, attitude problem, afraid to compete, etc.' comments come from substance versus a small bit of bitterness that he is exploring options.

Could be my own bias, but I would be very surprised if Dylan is exploring the portal because he was afraid to compete against TJ or any other QBs. I think both Dana & Rhule would prefer to keep Dylan than test the waters with the portal. Neither of them have a great track record with transfer QBs. Whereas Dylan would be a third year Junior with 20+ starts, the highest paid player on the team, and another year being brought up in Dana's system.

Thank you HCMR for reiterating that we have a very competent QB in TJ Lateef, a QB that WANTS to play for Nebraska.. Some have forgotten...
What a horrible take. Dylan worked tireless on and off the field to promote the university and we couldn’t even give him an average line to operate behind. Sure, there were flaws that were exposed, but we did nothing to migrate them. Then ‘fans” turned on him like wild animals to wounded pray. He was pretty wrapped up in the program and he has every right to look elsewhere.

Maybe once the toxic fan base gets pared out, we can resume winning again. Let it burn and build it again. Greatest fans my butt

Lol... It's a horrible take to repeat what matt Rhule said.. ?? 🤔🤣. I think the toxic part is the people that can't see what actually happened here.. move past it bro..

I have a conscious preset for a dual threat QB. But I am more hardwired for winning. Whatever/whoever it takes to win, make it happen.
