Based on your non-answers before, you don't really know how their process works. So, criticizing things you don't really understand doesn't lend much weight to your opinions on that
Players all start with the same score and each play get + or - based on some dude watching the replay of the game. Hoping he understands what the responsibility of the play is. The first couple of weeks into the season, last years rankings into effect on this years games. Around week 5 or 6, that changes to just this years games. It’s, not really rocket science that they developed and yes PFF is not good at rating QB’s. My opinion on this falls in line with many prominent players and ex players. I’m quite content with my opinion
On a quick look, I think there are a couple things that go into this specific example. First, Mahomes had a lot more stats because he had a lot more attempts - more than double what Smith had.
Oh, so you mean the QB who made good plays moving the chains had even more chances to make good plays than the QB who didn’t. Ok
Second, Smith was pressured twice as often as Mahomes, so that makes a difference in performance. Smith had a much higher drop percentage than Mahomes, meaning he gets credit for doing his job even though the traditional stats don't reflect it. And finally - and perhaps most importantly - Mahmoes got tagged for turnover-worthy plays, meaning he threw a pass that easily could have been intercepted or fumbled but didn't actually turn the ball over. Smith didn't have any.
Mahomes had 1 pass that had a chance of being intercepted. And that pass was a bullet into a defensive lineman (who disguised a good drop out into coverage) and dropped the ball like the vast majority of defensive lineman do. He catches that ball maaaaaybe 2 out of 10 times.
The other TWP was a defensive back barely getting one hand on a pass. He intercepts that ball 0-10 times.
BTW….PFF talking turnover worthy plays is funny when Josh Allen literally has an interception and gets credit for zero turnover worthy plays. PFF Dude re-watching the game must have went to the bathroom on that one.
And no, agent was not pressured twice as much as Mahomes. Mahomes had more pressures against him than Geno did.
There is no universe where someone could watch that game and say Geno Smith did a better job (or even close to the same job) performance wise than Mahomes. It’s a flawed system.
Callahan probably knows that PFF provides other stats besides player grades which may be useful to the teams that subscribe. Callahan probably also knows that each of those teams most likely grade their own players too. Maybe Callahan could do some reporting work and ask teams how closely their grades match PFF player grades. It may line up pretty close with interior lineman, but we know based on Sunday, the QB ratings are quite flawed.
