ESPN: Must win game for 2016 Huskers

The past 2 games at Madison have been blowouts for sure, but in both games we have started out well. I'm not sure what the hell happens in the 2Q in Madison.

In 2011, we were up 14-7 early in the 2nd before Wisconsin outscored us 34-3 the rest of the way In 2014, we were ahead 17-3 early in the 2nd before Wisconsin outscored us 56-3 the rest of the way.
That is easy, Wisconsin adjusted and Bo stubbornly didn't which was one of his trademarks. There are two words for that "Jet Sweep."
I don't think there was much jet sweep in those two games. That was all 2012 IIRC.

Can you all hear yourselves! Mediocrity reigns! We have become Iowa, deep down you know I am right

Fresno State is the must win game for 2016.

We all saw what happened the last time we lost a season opener.....................

You're something alright
So obviously you don't agree. Ok where are we really, give me an honest evaluation. No" it will be better next yr".Wait till the Calabasses crew get here. Take the homer out of it Where are we now!.
Where are we now? 1 year in on a transition. 8 years removed from stagnant. 12 years removed from disgrace.

Are we top dog? Not even close.

But we are not Iowa. Why? Because, they just celebrated their best season in school history with conference runner up rings and an epic meltdown in a pitiful Rose Bowl appearance.

Iowa still wishes they were Nebraska.

Iowa had a really, really good year. And it was the best season they've ever had.... And they still didn't win anything. Rest my case.

In my opinion, it's a must win in the sense that it restores faith in the program. Wisconsin has owned us, even when they haven't been very good, or a paper tiger (ala last year). It's time to show them who the real Big Red is.

until we win these types of games. I think there is a path to win the west if we win the games we are suppose to win and finally win these 'toss up' games consistently.

I can understand the viewpoint Redux is coming from as his must-win games, and from what he's trying to say, I agree with that logic. If they can take care of the notorious bottom dwellers, the trough of the roller coaster season is eliminated, removing A LOT of frustration from the fanbase and the mental state of the team as a whole - which is more important than any fan emotion.

I also agree with Saunders. That would be the monkey-off-back type win, to go into Madison and come home with a victory. It could also be a momentum/weight off the shoulder type victory for those upperclassman who have been through the trials of our B1G experience.

I'd also argue that Iowa is a must win type of contest too, but more for the fans sake than the players. Iowa is more of a bragging rights game with your neighbor/coworker than other game on the schedule. Plus, Iowa is so inconsistent, I wouldn't be surprised if they lay a giant egg this year.

I also don't think points made in this discussion leads to settling for mediocrity as much as it mean having an honest expectation about the season. No matter how much I think we should always be a 10win division champ as the bottom of my expectations, I also reserve hesitation to place those high of expectations, for now, on a program that hasn't proven anything significant since 2001 and then fly off the rails when they don't achieve those goals.

All good points brought up here. I'm personally always hesitant to prescribe a 'must-win' game preseason unless there's just a blatantly obvious one. I don't know if there is that one obvious game this year because there seem to be a lot more variables at play this year than in the past.
