Messi Wins Best Player In Europe Award

Barcelona's Lionel Messi has won the inaugural UEFA Best Player in Europe Award following a season where he helped his club win the Champions League for the third time in five years. Messi trumped the 10-man shortlist which also included Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona colleagues Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and Gerard Pique.

 
Inter Milan Loans Pandev To Napoli For Season

Serie A club Napoli has secured the services of Inter Milan striker Goran Pandev on a loan deal. Pandev will join Napoli for 1 season after originally being linked to Bundesliga club Schalke and Serie A outfit Genoa.

"I am very happy to be able to play the Champions League with a club like Napoli as they are a very important club," he told Sky Sports Italia.

AC Milan Midfielder Flamini Out 5 Months With Knee Injury

Flamini, 27, hurt his right knee during last weekend's 2-1 win over Juventus in the Berlusconi Trophy, and further tests have confirmed ligament damage. He will undergo knee surgery and is expected to be sidelined until next year.

 
Diego Forlan Confirms Transfer To Inter Milan

Diego Forlan has confirmed he will be joining Inter from Atletico Madrid. The 32-year-old striker held a press conference in Madrid to state he would no longer be playing at Atletico. Forlan will travel to Milan today where he will undergo a medical before signing a contract rumored to be for 2 years. Forlan has played for Atletico since 2007, when he joined them from Villarreal.

Manchester United's Welbeck Out 5 Weeks With Hamstring Injury

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is out for up to 5 weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the 8-2 win over Arsenal.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed after the game the forward had pulled his hamstring, and will be sidelined for a month.

Ferguson told BBC Sport: “It is a loss for us and for England. Danny complained of a tight hamstring before he actually pulled it and we couldn’t get Hernandez on quick enough. It is a shame for Danny but it [his absence] will be around four to five weeks.”

 
Wesley Sneijder Says He Is Not Leaving Inter

Wesley Sneijder has ended any prospect of a move to Manchester United by insisting he is staying with Inter Milan. Sneijder had been open to a move, but with the transfer window closing on Wednesday he has now confirmed his intention to stay.

"I'm staying at Inter," Sneijder told Sender Nos. "I don't think I'll leave at this moment in the transfer market. Manchester United? Anything is possible in football, but I don't think this time something will happen. I know that if I were to leave it would have to be for the right price, Inter was clear about that. But I have not spoken formally with the two Manchester clubs."

 
Diego Forlan Arrives In Milan

MILAN - Diego Forlan is in town. He landed in Linate, Milan on a (delayed) flight from Madrid a short time ago. Tomorrow the final stages of the deal with Atletico Madrid and with the player himself will be settled then, after the red tape has been sorted out, the official announcement will be made. He was welcomed by a group of fifty or so fans singing "siamo venuti sin qua per vedere segnare Forlan" (We've come all the way here to see Forlan score). The captain of Uruguay gave a brief interview to waiting journalists.

"I'd like to thank president Moratti and Inter for this great opportunity," he said. "I'm very happy to be here and to play for a fantastic team like Inter. I've already spoken to Zanetti and Cambiasso, but all I want to say is that I'm happy to be here and that this is a great opportunity for my career. Eto'o? Samuel is a wonderful guy and a superb footballer. I'm here to continue winning with Inter. My aim is to play and score as much as possible for my new team."

 
Wolfsburg Signs Barcelona's Hleb On Loan

German club Wolfsburg has signed Alexander Hleb on a 1 year loan from Barcelona, according to FC Barcelona's official website. Hleb, 30, has been sent out on loan the last 2 seasons, at Stuttgart and Birmingham, having played just 36 competitive games for Barca during the 2008-09 campaign after joining them from Arsenal.
