Eh, I guess so, if the game were to end just before the culmination of Ohio State's 10-play, 75-yard drive to open their second half for the offense, the score would have been 35-31 and the time would have been a little bit north of 9:00.

I don't think the original characterization is so far off. Ohio State basically had four three-and-outs in the 1st quarter, and then reeled off four straight TDs in Q2 and we had no answer defensively for them the rest of the way. Our own offense did a good job of cutting the 35-24 halftime deficit with the first drive of Q3, but the defense had already fallen apart and the game fast got out of hand from that point with the offense not being able to keep pace. After a fast start it was already slipping away in Q2.

As for the adjustments there was this awesome OSU site that broke down what they did and some of the plays from that game...anyone got the link handy?

In summary we came into that game doing some good things and eventually got our asses kicked.

I guess I agree with Landlord. Your perception is that we were completely out of the game after the 1st quarter. Yes the defense wasn't playing well, but they were hanging in the game. Watching the game I sure thought we were in it at 35-31 just under 9:00 minutes Q3. OSU had the momentum for sure, but I know and you know the momentum can change on one play. It didn't and the end result was what it was, but you have the benefit of looking back at the game. I still thought they were in it.

Yeah, I think they were. I just think it slipped away earlier. It was already 35-24 and we were losing our hold on the game. Managed to make up some ground early in the second half with that score, but it got right away from us again and that was that. Hey, it was a good effort and you're right, if we had turned things around on the D we could've made it back from that point in the 3rd.

I guess as long as we are with in 14 with at least a quarter left to go, I think we can win. The thing that just torks me is that Braxton Miller hadn't played super great that year up until that point. He had shown flashes but he plays probably his best game of the year in that game. That game wasn't even close to TM's best game. I kept expecting Miller to walk off the field hurt at some point also. He got dinged up in almost every game I watched him. in.

OSU was just flat out an a$$ kicking after the first quarter (IIRC Urban changed a blocking assignment on the ZR, and changed Braxton's read) and we never adjusted.

My goodness, no it wasn't. It was 35-31 halfway through the 3rd quarter.

How many times am I going to have to point this out?
We were chasing OSU the whole time. I don't know about you, but I felt we had no chance to win after the 1st.

21 points can't be a considered a blowout. too many teams have come from down 3 td's to win games. A blowout is a point in the game where the lead is large enough that the team with the lead would have to commit numerous turnover's to lose the game.

I think he was referring to the final score.

final scores can be misleading. years ago when we had a home and home with USC and they kicked our a$$ but the final score was 49-31. 18 point loss. the game was never as close as the final score made it to be.

Thats a good point, alot of times its a one or two score game and in the final minutes when the other team has pretty much checked out the winning team will get more or less a trash time td to close out the game.

So what has been unanimously decided is that the score really has no bearing on whether or not the game is a blowout. You have to watch the game and take note of all the intracacies of the game itself to be able to determine if it was a blowout.

Not unanimous. I will still hold to my original belief that 20+ point loss is a blowout. Regardless of the final score. Some blowouts may look better, but that is just putting lipstick on a pig.

Ok. Maybe not unanimous, but there's been instances pointed out that a 21 point loss can not be a blowout based on certain circumstances.

Damn, you Huskerboarders find a way to complicate just about anything.
