Freedom Akinmoladun Could Be a Monster DE

Our DL is going to be pretty deep. DE's will be young but encouraging. Stolt and Newell are likely to stay outside.

What's the point to moving Newell back to a loaded DT position? It's our best position IMO. He has a chance to contribute this year at DE. If his skill set doesn't translate well to DE its the only reason to move him inside.

Sedrick King was an intriguing prospect coming out of HS as well (rFR)

As Newell gets older and we don't have a glaring problem at DE he will slide inside.

We have a good set of DTs but they're mostly upper-classmen. All but two will be gone in two years. We are unproven at DE but there are four freshmen. Long-term, we're better off with Newell at DT.

You didn't see production stats out of Gangwish last year because he was not let loose. He was told to occupy the tackle and do nothing else 95% of the time

That info came straight from his mouth after the bowl game.

You guys don't believe it but he will start, and you will see the idiocy of the previous staff by not letting Gangwish loose.
I agree.

It might be like watching an entirely different team out there when these guys are finally allowed to attack and get after it a bit. Maybe a few more guys look like the playmakers they actually are. I've beaten the issue to death about how much I think Bo's scheme limited playmaking, and that goes for defensive line, linebackers, and the secondary.
Agreed. Here is my evaluation that describes the previous staff's M.O. compared to a different option. At least to me.

Trust that the best player can make plays from the position within basic principals & concepts to help the defense succeed with proper guideance.

vs

The player who carries out the exact, specific instructions taught during the week in practice will be trusted to do their job and be accountable for their mistakes on monday's film.

I agree with Newell sliding inside. There is a decent chance this is Collins last year. Kid is a beast and will be on a lot of draft boards this year.
