Frost: Dawson done “great job” with special teams- may not hire a dedicated ST Coordinator

I think some of you get way too caught up in the practice of isolating individual statements Frost makes and extrapolating them into massive indictments of him and the program.

Frost almost never dunks on his coaching staff, so him praising the job Dawson has done despite the litany of ST errors we've seen this year should be 100% expected.

Not sure how you get the intent to "deceive"..??  the "full" quote would be long but @5:47 he clearly states that "dawson has done a great job running special teams" and @5:55 frost states "but our special teams have vastly improved".  Not sure many in the football realm would agree...
You still have either not listened yourself or have read one part of the entire quote.

he said our coverage units have improved- and this is true. But-the specialists need to improve. And when the whole puzzle is put together-and I take that to mean when the OC is hired- , he would love to consider a ST coach

The whole quote is vastly different then the one-line dramatic tweet McKewon put  out.  The danger of tweets and not actually listening yourself.

Odd that you have that take, I've watch frost's presser,  3-4 local sports news clips and 2 national clips that don't..  You're entitled to your opinion but special teams is not special and would be hard for anyone to agree that "dawson has done a great job running special teams"..

I've always believed special teams are a product of your team depth.

The kicking game is a dumpster fire, but I don't blame him for that.  No one returns kick off's and I don't blame him for that.  They've tried 37 guys at punt return and have finally identified one that can fair catch without a muff.  I think they tried here.

I'm not saying he's great, but I think it's tough to evaluate.

You just named issues with half of the special teams units.  That's a long ways from ST being a strength.  The big thing that I think a dedicated ST coach can do is enable proper organization of the players on game day.  There will be one coach on the sideline having his ST units ready to go on the field when needed.  I think attention to detail and organization are huge weakness for Frost.  Having a dedicated ST coach should help in those weak areas.  As others have said, I think it's an overall mindset and focus on special teams which has been lacking for years at NU.
That kind of organization prevents you from having to call a timeout at the beginning of the second half…before the kickoff.

I’m all for bagging in Frost. I didn’t like him as player and I don’t like him as a coach. But the isolated quote is not what he said.

I dislike the media as well

as it is soooo important to have good ST's , all around, it's hard to believe we will not designate a single coach to play this vital role.

after losing a bunch of games due to multiple mistakes on ST it just begs the question....why not fix what's broke!!

i give up.

Its funny to think how one punt to the left and a couple of botched kicks changed Husker history forever.

Small things matter.
