FS/RB Corey Young

THREE less than stellar commits in a week.

yippee.
This kills me. People want them to recruit in state kids so they go after two and then people aren't happy. I'm sure if they wouldn't of got the Martin kid or this guy people would be complaining as well. I don't get it.

Some people complain just to hear themself do so. Case in point, the guy above me.

I personally do not believe Young will decommit. I think he got the same type of virus Cruz Barret caught. The "I'm tired of your BS of stringing me along so I'm commiting to someone else" virus. :)

Can't win newearth, I thought the same thing

I have no problem with Cruz. I personally think he's one hell of a commit. The fact FSU came crawling to him with an offer says a lot.

As far as Ben Martin, another guy who i have no problem with. He's likely going to end up greyshirtting if we get some guys the coaches are expecting to get to fill out the remaining class. So right now, he doesn't seem to be taking away any valuable scholarships.

Corey young..just not sold on him being a sold commit yet. Time will tell and i personally saw him play twice this season and he could play next season on special teams (doubt he makes the 2 deep at a off/def position with his frame yet).

3 good commits, but only 1 of them could be a solid backup next year (assuming no one decommits). People need to keep in mind that these coaches are not giving out scholarships for the fun of it. If they offered, that means they want them

:yeah

As far as Corey Young and Anthony West go, they might be the future at the safety position for Nebraska. 5 years ago NU brought in a couple of 2 :star athletes to play safety and they turned out alright. Josh and Daniel Bullocks ring a bell, anyone?

Glad to have Corey on board.

Excuse me, would someone point me to the post where I said we HAVE to recruit Nebraska kids?

Anyone?

Careful with the sterotyping. You need some facts to back it up.

Listen, I know this borders on blasphemy, but I could care less if we recruit NE kids. Honestly. This program STILL suffers from a lack of talent. As much as I love the heart and soul kids, I'd love to see our few remaining open schollies taken by better rated, more talented players. Darn it, as much as I like Ross, I'm still pretty sure Marlon Lucky will have a greater impact on the program.

So while Corey Young is a nice athlete and I'm sure a good, hard-working kid, I'd rather we focused on better prospects.

And please don't go off about heart and soul kids. I understand why each program has them and needs them. No question. My favorite Huskers over the years have been the Fullbacks, such as Rathman, the Mackovickas, etc. I understand and appreciate the role of such players.

And further, don't bash me for relying on stars and ratings. I'm no recruiting expert, but I understand statistics a little bit. There is quite the correlation between recruiting rankings and actual, on the field results.

:restore2

Actually, statistics have some (but very little) to do with how a recruit is ranked. Today, it's about how much film they have, how many spectacular highlight clips you have, size and speed. Moreso, it has to do with how much film they have on you and how many spectacular plays they have, thats it.

Frankly, who cares how many stars you have?

If you want a point of emphasis, take a look at Rivals' Freshman All-American team and look how many 2 star and 3 star players are on that list.

Trust me, you're fighting a battle you cannot win.

If you plan to base your whole recruiting year off pulling in 4-5 star players consistently, you're for a world of trouble. We're not Florida, California or Texas where kids grow up dreaming of playing for us who are 4-5 star players. Nebraska produces a few highly rated players, but thats it.

However, if you feel you can do that, go apply to the AD and get a Grad position on the team and put those skills to use.

I can understand taking a chance on guys like West and Young, NU is deathly thin at those positions, and those guys supposedly have enough speed to play 1A ball. Speed kills, and there is a chance that they could develop and learn enough to become good players. The Martin kid baffles me. The guy is the size of a TE or DE, with the speed of a OG or DT. NU offers him but reportedly told A Claiborn that they would not offer him, even though he is a better much more highly rated prospect, especially at one of their deepest positions  . I dont get that.

I thought that one of the Bullocks was a 3 or 4 :star player, as he was the Tenn. player of the year??

Frankly, who cares how many stars you have?
Not that I disagree with you, but apparently pud did, isnt that why he made the coaching change??

If thats the case, then the future doesnt look quite as bright for NU, unfortunately.

Great job taking the last quote out of context.

If you bothered brushing up on your comprehension skills you would know that I meant Nebraska has to recruit twice as hard as some of those schools who can pull kids so easily into their program. Those are the facts, but it doesn't mean they cannot do it. They proved that last year and to an extent, this year as well.

Nebraska will get its share of top-tier talent, but do not expect every single recruit to be a piece of work because they're not 4-5 star players, or even 3 star for that matter.

I realize that :dumdum , I didnt take that quote out of context, its the same old story that NU has dealt with for the past 30 years. At some point, kids from FL, CA, and TX are not gonna want to come to a cold weather school, thousands of miles from home, to a small town in the middle of "nowhere" if they dont have to (for the most part). It has happened in the past, it will again.

The point being is when that happens, what is this staff gonna do? They have already shown that they need greatly superior talent to beat average teams. When NU has average talent (as they have the last few years) it wont be pretty.

Maybe youd better brush up on your reading comprehension, and not take my quote out of context??

Either you're a complete idiot, or you simply do not understand.

Either way, arguing with you is like kicking a donkey in the butt and expecting it to move. It's pointless since the diatribe you will spew is the all the same.

Either you're a complete idiot, or you simply do not understand.
Et tu???

Like I said previously, but you are obviously not intellectually capable to understand, NU has had difficulties pulling said top prospects out of said recruiting hotbeds for years, and years, and years for reasons pointed out in the previous post. It hasnt changed, and this staff like previous staffs has to work much harder to pull said talent from those areas.

And NE doesnt support as much talent (4 and 5 :star players) as FL, CA, TX.

You dont have to act like a total jacka$$, Im agreeing with you :dumdum .

Too bad that either "you're a complete idiot, or you simply do not understand."

Geeeeesh :WTH

Wow willie, you just now noticed that? I been saying that for a while now that he takes sentences, breaks them up to fit his own needs and totally twists peoples words around. I am suprised it took you so long to notice that
