Fumble Reviewed

I was watching Big Red Wrap Up and the fumble with Helu in the ISU games came up then they showed in slow motion. You could clearly see his knee was down before the ball was loose even between the traffic, it's obvious. This is starting to become a reoccurring issue and that whole conspiracy that the Big XII (Beebe) has it out for us is making more sense. I wasn't a believer but now I'm starting to see a pattern.

The appropriate response to all of this is to

win the Big 12 championship to send an

unmistakable message to Commisioner Beebe

what he can do with his politicized, Texas-run

joke of a conference.

Couldn't agree more, I'd love to see Beebe handing Bo the trophy and Bo just grinning from ear to ear. Biggest FU we could give to this P.O.S. Texass run conference.

Everyone thinks the refs are out to get their team. I don't think the refs are 'out to get us' this year. If I remember correctly it was hard to tell whether or not he was down or not. It was ruled a fumble on the field and without conclusive evidence then you can't overturn it. And if I'm remembering correctly there wasn't conclusive evidence.

We may not make it to the CCG if we continue to get jobbed by the refs. Calls in the Texas game, MU game and ISU game all are BS.

And it was only ruled a fumble after ISU HC sent the official on his side of the field to change it. The official closest to the play called him down, but then changed his mind when the 2nd official came running in.

:yeah

There's always bad calls, nothing you can really do about it. We finish the season and move on.

If we were just moving to the Big-10 for football related reasons only, than I would hate the change. There's so much more benefit for Nebraska changing conferences. We are now getting this program back to where it was under Osborne, and I would have enjoyed seeing us taking on Texas and Okl year after year. It is going to be much harder trying to go 12-0 to 11-1 now. We had it pretty good being in the North division. We were probably ready to rule the north, with a chance at a BCS game almost every year, with the tie in for Big-12 conference champ.

GBR!!!

I remember this too. Made it almost impossible to overturn since the refs had essentially already overturned it from the get-go.

As the teams headed to halftime, Bo complained about how Roy being held up for 15 seconds before he fumbled and then the whistle blew. And he's right - it's ridiculous that the play hadn't been called dead at least a couple seconds earlier when Helu's forward progress had ended.

Take a look at several ISU offensive plays and you'll notice the refs were very very quick to blow the whistle when forward progress ended. I counted three separate times when only one or two Blackshirts were tackling an ISU runner, and almost to the second ISU forward progress ended, the whistle was blown and our Blackshirts didn't even have enough time to take the defender to the ground.

Can you say "double standard?"

Yes we got bent over on the Helu fumble and yes we will continue to get bent over the rest of the way. The best way to deal with it is to come out and get a big lead like in the misery game and take the other team and zebras out of it.

Yes - wouldn't it have been fun to wave bye bye to texass and the rest of the south division as they screwed us over and left for other conferences? it sure would have been great to have been left out in the cold and praying for a mountain west invite! You have failed, please die

I haven't bought in to the conspiracy theories yet. But it does seems like we've had more than our share of bad calls.

This is the most reasonable thing. It is highly unlikely that the remainder of the Big XII has colluded to screw Nebraska. But as the unusually bad calls pile up, it's hard to ignore the possibility.

It's likely that this is just a continuation of the piss-poor officiating we've seen throughout the history of the Big XII and due to circumstances we're just more sensitive to the calls. However, the conspiracy theory is waaay more entertaining.

We can do that if we are on top of our game but against Texas A & M and possibly OSU, it will be harder to do that. OSU can score with anyone in the country. You get a couple bad calls and they turn those into to TD's, wall aah!!

NU is hosed out of the Big 12 Championship.

Bad year all around for Big 12 refs. Just another major problem for a conference rife with them. Par for the course, 'eh Daniel?

The announcers on the radio seemed to think that the play should have been blown dead long before the fumble because obvious forward progress had been stopped long before the fumble. I didn't get a chance to watch the game, so I don't know about the knee and what not. While there have been some calls go against us, there have also been some calls not made against us like the Crick facemask. I'm of the opinion that the ref's just aren't very good. Until a team gets five downs against us, I'm not willing to concede to conspiracy theories yet.
