Harper Murray Post

i don't have facebook, tik tok, or x. i haven't seen the jubilant celebration video that has so many pissed off husker fans wanting her dismissed. if anyone could actually post a link here or in the political forums i could make up my own mind about it.

The post was taken down really fast. Harper has no class and she has shown that on several occasions. Should she be dismissed from the team for being stupid? No! I just hope she grows up some day, NIL is not helping as it makes these athletes think they are invincible.

It’s not about voicing an opinion or “freedom of speech”. She’s a paid representative of the university of Nebraska. They can say and do whatever they want. They won’t be put in jail. However, their employer/platform may decide they don’t want them representing them anymore.

I’ll take the same stance with her as I did with Ron Brown. I don’t love the commercials Bahl & Allick did last year either. Shut up and do what you’re here to do. Stay out of politics and divisive issues. Understand the audience (customers) that make the platform possible.

Murray was already on thin ice. This is a bad look for her and shows she’s still struggling to understand how to be successful in the platform she has. I hope she figures it out because she’s had a challenging life.

I haven’t seen anything. What was told…….

She made a TikTok video that said something like “I’m in Nebraska so I can’t say my opinion on things”. It was quickly removed.

Additionally, she made multiple comments and/or reactions to other social media postings mocking the assassination of Charlie Kirk. There’s something about Allick posting support of Kirk and Murray liking negative comment.

Again……What I have put here is just what I was told. I have seen no evidence of this.

This matches exactly what I’ve heard also. I haven’t actually seen any of it firsthand. Of course the implication is, since she is in Nebraska and can’t share her real feelings, that she disagrees with Kirk to at least some extent. I’d say that is well within her rights as a human being to maybe not support what Kirk stood for. In fact that would be where I am at on the subject. She didn’t celebrate his death, she didn’t directly say anything, only that she couldn’t comment. Extremely reasonable IMO. Yet we have posters vehemently calling for her to be kicked off the team, seemingly only because her politics (unconfirmed by her) may not agree with theirs.

So who is in the wrong here? IMO it’s the people raising a stink about the innocuous comment that she won’t comment. Strikes me as quite thought policing. Agree with me or you’ll pay for it…. That’s some crazy shít.

She acknowledged in her post (I finally had to dig. It’s easy to find) that she was self sensoring. She is admitting if she posts her opinion it’s going to be a problem. From my standpoint, if you really are sensoring you’re not saying anything at all. That’s both directly or via ‘likes’.

“I’m not going to say anything” is actually saying something. It’s lazy and is no where near staying silent. She is aware that her beliefs don’t align with a significant portion of her ‘supporters’. She felt like she gave herself an out by posting something vague. She stepped in it…..again.

I still struggle how so many of you can’t view this from a practical standpoint. If you posted something on social media that went against what your boss or your works customers believe, you’d likely face disciplinary action. We allow the fact that she’s in the public spotlight to make this appear different. It’s not.

I really don’t know what I’d do if I was the administration. This is a tough one. But make no mistake, this is a problem. I’m glad social media wasn’t around when I was in my 20s.

But she didn’t post anything on social media that went against what her bosses or customers (fans) believe. Yet here we are, with people acting like she did.

I agree that it wasn’t the ideal move to post that she won’t be sharing her thoughts. I mean that’s easy, just don’t say anything. But these are 20yo kids that grew up with social media. They feel the need to comment on all kinds of crap that would be best left unsaid. But since she is a high profile college athlete, the political rage machine came roaring to life….over basically nothing.

There can't be a 'debate' because the people mad at her are mad because of something they imagined, not something she actually said, or did.

And if we're going to waste this much gas on something Harper Murray didn't actually say, where's the equivalent for what the orange cheeto has actually said while occupying our White House?

If you think Harper Murray not saying something is a 'problem,' I can't wait to get your input in P&R about the White House guy.
