Harper Murray Post

for a long time you had the george washington quote about freedom of speech as your sig line, now you have deleted it and have invoked the thought police. that is quite the jump

Actually I have not posted on these types of topics in years so I have been wanting to come up with a new one. As for freedom of speech, I am not suggesting anyone should be banned from a platform for sharing their views no matter how inhumane they may be. However, I do believe organizations have the ability to terminate or reprimand individuals if one's views cause harm to that brand or organization. There is a difference.

In the case of this situation, I don't think Murray should be suspended for insinuating support of tiktoks celebrating Kirk's assassination. If she had actually made such a post explicitly then I would expect the admin to take some action. Regardless, I will still support Husker Volleyball program and cheer them on but my opinion of Harper Murray the person has diminished considerably.

I was mostly with you but there's one big problem here.

The closest we've gotten (and still far from anything truly concrete) in terms of evidence is a screenshot allegation that she liked the following comments:

"Why have you never once called out the gun violence against innocent children at schools but are posting about him?"

"can i ask why it took this death to get everyone on the same page? there was a school shooting in colorado today too. that makes 9 already this year. I'm just confused..."

"This was a tragic event, and political violence is abhorrent. But, we're flyin ghalf-staff for a man who was never officially part of the government..."

"He said gun deaths are worth having, to keep the second amendment, therefore im prayin gfor him and his family, this should happen to no one and we must condemn..."

"i didn't expect you to be a kirk defender queen"

You said you "don't think Murray should be suspended for insinuating support of tiktoks celebrating Kirk's assassination", and you're right, but not because the punishment would be too harsh, but rather because there's nothing here celebrating anything.

So why has your opinion diminished?

The day she made the comment about wanting to repost so many tiktoks but could not because of living in Nebraska was the same day that many younger tiktok users were openly celebrating Kirk's assassination and the timing is not a coincidence. When you couple that timing with her liking many leftist talking points in the replies, it's apparent what position she has taken in the post-assassination debate. Additionally, Murray chose to like opposing posts of her own teammate who was obviously hurting which just shows the real character of Murray. Adding in her past DUI she seems to be a very troubled individual and volleyball has provided a structure to help keep her on track as best as possible.

I think Harper is fine, possibly even glad, to lose your support.

This is the core problem IMO. Privately disagreeing is one thing, publicly giving the comments of 'haters' credence is another. The screenshot was ignorant and tone-deaf. Harper was given a lot of sympathy and support when she was going through some very public struggles a few years ago. A quick way to lose that is to intentionally detach herself from the fanbase and teammates that have widely encouraged her.

I hope this turns out to be a big nothing burger for the team and she matures with time. Ignorance is bliss.

I could care less if she is glad to lose support of current Husker fans who might have otherwise purchased her merchandise. It's her choice how she wants to behave in the spotlight.

For the record I would be equally as critical if a Husker player insinuated support of the Pulse nightclub shooting and then liked opposing posts of a gay teammate who was emotionally torn up from the targeted shooting.
