The thing that I think everyone else forgets is that recent history supports the individuals that are looking for a quick win. Only 1 championship (BCS) coach since 2000 has taken longer than 4 years to get his first trophy, and that's Mack Brown. He took 8 years...but was winning 11 games by year 2, and 11-13 games until he finally won the big one.
Coaches win quick today. It doesn't take em long to get to 11 wins. The list is long. Peterson, Patterson, Kelley, Kiffin, Dantonio, Bielema, Petrino, Harbaugh, etc. I mean Art Briles turned around Baylor! And it's not like coaches haven't turned around a program in worse shape. Look at Oklahoma the 4 years before Stoops got there. Or Alabama, or USC. The Huskers weren't exactly a parted out car. They weren't what Les Miles inherited at LSU, or Coker at Miami...but there's plenty of coaches that have taken teams coming off 3, 4, and 5 win seasons in the prior couple of years of them taking over (5 of the 9)...and gotten them to a championship level in a few years.
It's not crazy for people to desire this. We watch a coach win the BSC every year that has been in their position less time than Bo now has.
2000 Oklahoma - Stoops (year 2) - 5-5, 3-8, 4-8, 5-6 (17-27: 38%)
2001 Miami - Coker (year 1) - 5-6, 9-3, 9-4, 11-1 (34-14: 71%)
