Couple of things:
1. I'll almost rather have most anything else as an offense for a kid than stealing. (Yeah, assault or physical violence of any type isn't good either.) Just idiotic. Not quite sure, if the report is accurate, what the heck he was doing hanging around with a seventeen year old milling around like that. Even if it was a friend from back home, you've got to be smarter than that.
2. It's good to see Smiles lay down the law from the get-go. You play it my way, play it straight, or you don't play for me. Sets a no-nonsense attitude right from the start, so guys know where they stand. I know the kid was alleged to have done it. But you have to think that Smiles asked him straight up if he did it. If he did, I can imagine he was very upfront with him. Just can't do it, especially not in today's age, where that type of stuff is way too public to begin with.
