Hilliard, 19, was arrested on suspicion of robbery on June 7. Capt. Jason Stillie of the Lincoln Police Department said a cell phone was stolen from a 21-year-old female victim near 14th and Q streets on May 15. The alleged robber took the cell phone out of the woman’s hand, got into a car and left the scene.

Couple of things:

1. I'll almost rather have most anything else as an offense for a kid than stealing. (Yeah, assault or physical violence of any type isn't good either.) Just idiotic. Not quite sure, if the report is accurate, what the heck he was doing hanging around with a seventeen year old milling around like that. Even if it was a friend from back home, you've got to be smarter than that.

2. It's good to see Smiles lay down the law from the get-go. You play it my way, play it straight, or you don't play for me. Sets a no-nonsense attitude right from the start, so guys know where they stand. I know the kid was alleged to have done it. But you have to think that Smiles asked him straight up if he did it. If he did, I can imagine he was very upfront with him. Just can't do it, especially not in today's age, where that type of stuff is way too public to begin with.

This is exactly why i am liking Miles more and more... He knows this team will stink next year and so he is making it very clear what type of program he is going to run.

Hillard was going to get some good PT and now he will be lucky to play D2 ball...

I assume Miles got the whole story and didnt like what he was hearing.. was a thought out decision I assume.

Lets keep building this team with high class, hard working kids and you will see success. I would love to have 5 Lance Jeter types out there. He worked his butt off and played smart.
