Is there a certain record you need to see next year or...

Yeah, we had the talent to beat Purdue and Illinois, and it's not like those two teams came in with a brilliant game plan and a lights out performance. Huskers simply screwed the pooch.

We probably can't take any team for granted, but Minnesota has earned its way out of the gimme category.

Minnesota will be a really interesting story line to follow in the coming years. Jerry Kill was a really likable guy and a great coach, and you could tell his players bought in. I hope they don't falter following his retirement.

I mean, I still want to beat them (obviously) but I hope they play well the rest of the time!

Wait...are some of you pretending like we lost to Purdue last year? I mean, sure, they scored a ton of points but when you really think about it...we basically won that game.

#Sarcasm

8-4 is the minimum I will accept for good record. Not great, but acceptable.

Anything lower, we had better be putting out feelers.

I would be satisfied with 8 wins if we don't get blown out and if we get 9+ wins the following year and 10+ after that, and continue to not get blown out.

A year ago, we were looking back at a coach who under-achieved his way to 9 wins every year. Now we have a thread full of folks who will be happy with 8-4 or 7-5 as a sign of progress.
One man's underachieving nine wins < Another man's overachieving 8 wins...or something...I guess...

It is amazing isn't it?

I was told over and over that a monkey could coach NU to 9 wins each year...

How is it amazing, and why does it matter what you were told by a few fans?

Improvement is what matters. If Riley never reaches 9 wins or stalls at 9 wins after several seasons like Pelini, he'll be rightly fired. If he has 8 wins in his 2nd season it's okay as long as he improves the year after that and the year after that. I'm not seeing how this is "amazing" or confusing.

So less than 8 this season is not okay?
My life doesn't revolve around Husker football, so no, it's not not okay.

But I'd say if he got less than 8 wins but more than 5 he shouldn't be fired but his 3rd season will be his last if he doesn't win 9+ at that point.

Given the facilities, resources, and money associated with the UNL football program, I expect them to be competing for a B1G championship at least every other year. That should be the first goal, as the CFP is not attainable without a B1G championship, IMHO.

Iowa has Rutgers, Penn State, and Michigan from the East division.

Nebraska has Maryland, Indiana, and Ohio State.

Wisconsin has Michigan State, Michigan, and Ohio State.

No reason we shouldn't be in the divisional race when that Nebraska - Iowa game rolls around.

Win ALL home games...restore that portion of the order at least.

Beat Indiana and NW on the road. 9-3 would be ok.

Ideally though, I think we steal one of the remaining three...either Iowa or Wisky or Ohio State, 10 - 2 would be more than OK.

Finish it off with a win in a nice bowl game.
