Israel - Iran War

Buddy look in the mirror... A 2 state solution is destined to fail. Both factions are a bunch of assholes. Both are equally responsible for the dehumanization and destruction. Both have committed atrocities. Maybe they can both step back, tell their people to reset and love thy neighbor. But who am I kidding.

Iran isn't run down. It's a quite beautiful country.

Quite beautiful, quite wealthy, quite modern, quite educated.

Gonna have to chalk this up to one more thing Teach is wrong about.

Yes, the Arab world has not done a bang up job (pun not intended) of proving they are all bunnies and daffodils about peace and to prove they are so different than Israel.

I also believe that this wouldn't be this deep in the mud if the US had demanded Israel do certain things to earn our support. Instead, we have politicians that believe their duty is to support Israel no matter what they do.

Tehran is beautiful.

The whole country is beautiful, and a lot of its people are pretty great. Before the revolution, Iran was one of the more progressive countries in the Middle East. That hasn't been beaten out of them in the two generations since the revolution put Khomeini in power.

I knew a lot of Iranians (who called themselves Persians) when I lived in California. Beautiful, smart, good people.

EDIT - looks like your edit shows we're in agreement on that.

I remember reading a lot about Iran back in the 80s and 90s that claimed their population actually like the west and really WANT to be more like us. But, it's the top religious leaders that are the main problem.

I hope you're right that it hasn't been beaten out of them.

There was an unusually high number of Iranians going to UNL when I was there in the late-70s and early-80s. Apparently our Engineering Department had a good international reputation. They were definitely of the wealthy and privileged class and things got a bit awkward during the Iranian Hostage crisis. The two I got to know personally had a pretty good sense of humor.

Of course they did. The normal people there would love to be more like the west. The insane dongs over there are the ones that ruin things.

I always tell people to go watch Parts Unknown where Bourdain goes to Iran. We have a lot in common with their general population.

Also, recommended his visit to Israel/Palestine and Lebanon. The cold open for the former is perfect "By the end of this episode, I’ll be seen by many as a terrorist sympathizer, a Zionist tool, a self-hating Jew, an apologist for American imperialism, an Orientalist, socialist, fascist, CIA agent, and worse. So here goes nothing."

The man's been dead 7 years now and nothing has changed.

Same when I was there. Most are there on doctorate engineering programs.

Not sure if this will embed, but there's plenty of footage of pre revolution Iran that is shocking to see if you never have before.

I miss him producing new shows.
