Four-Star Recruit
Okay, I'm the first to say that I was a big Callahan supporter. That is a thing of the past, for reasons that I will detail later.
But, speaking of Keller; last night, my wife began complaining about how Keller just doesn't get rid of the football in decent time. She said that he stands around looking too long. Being the household football expert, I chastised her, telling her that there obviously were no receivers open down field, and that's why he had to dump off all of those 3,4, and 5 yard passes. And then I started thinking . . .
Why is Nebraska the only major football program that doesn't seem to have open receivers down field? Heck, every other team we play have open receivers on fairly deep patterns. We don't, at least if you watch Keller. Ball State can do it. Iowa State can do it. Wake Forest can do it. But, for some reason, NU cannot.
Is it possible that Keller is more interested in padding his completion stats than winning games for NU? How many times have you seen him dump off a 2-3 yard completion on 3rd and long? It seems to be fairly frequent.
Maybe it's time that he rode the bench. Maybe that's why Arizona sent him packing. I mean, he has good stats, and the team sucks. Is there a relationship? I, for one, would like to see Ganz or one of the young QB's have a chance. After all, they are the future. Keller is just here to prepare for the pro draft. Trust me, we certainly have nothing to lose.
But back to Callahan. Something is going on in that program, and that's for certain. Has anyone heard any rumors? This seems to be a team that is not only on the same page--they don't even seem to have seen the playbook. Is there some sabotage going on there? This team does not even meet the mediocre level, even with all of these so-called great recruting seasons. What is going on? It's a mystery.
Maybe these pro coaches don't understand that college players need forced conditioning and skill development. Pro players don't need the motivation, because they do it for money. College players are still at a level that they really need conditioning and skill development. I see poorly conditioned college athletes and a subpar level of skill development when I watch these Huskers. They seem lost and befuddled.
Yes, Callahan must go, and he ultimately will. The only question is: How low will the program sink before we can move on?
