Lowered Expectations

Even if we improve you think we only go 5-3 the rest of the way and if we dont get any better we go 1-7 the rest of the way? I think if we don't improve at all we end up 7-5, if our defense gets better, 10-2, I think that's probably the ceiling. No way we lose seven more games.

Respectfully DCHusker, if we have a bunch of close games where calls don't go our way, we get a bunch of penalites, and give up a lot of turnovers, we could end up 4-8 if we continue to play as we have, especially on defense. (I really can't count ISU because it is perhaps the worst team in the Big 12.) Personally, the chances of that happening are unlikely -- probably more like 6-6.

As far as going 10-2 if we improve on defense, I see that unlikely due to questionable coaching. I think we have the talent for that, but I see 8-4.

I have not said that much about the coaching until now. This is the fourth year, and so far I don't see us getting any closer to being a top 10 team. Personally, I don't want to make final judgement on Cozgrove until at the end of the season. If the defense continues to stink it up, then he probably needs to be replaced -- but I worry about recruiting if we would do that. Even though I am starting to have my doubts about Callahan, no matter how he does this year, I think you have to give him six years total to see how he does. Then perhaps consider replacing him if the program doesn't move forward.

your predictions seem a little pessimistic, but the above statement is very level headed.....I totally agree

We are cureently 4-1 and could very easily be 6-6 at the end of the season. I watched KS and CO and thought to myself I really dont like Prince or Hawkins but they are getting the job done! Then I asks whats wrong here in NE?

I think this is Peterson issue and he will fall eventually because of it!
Post of the season, folks!!! :sarcasm

I don't think Iowa state is as bad as some are giving credit.

They did beat Iowa. Iowa has played some tough competition and did better against it than they did against State.

We will have a much better idea of where we are after this weekend.

Could we please let the wheels come off before going completely beserk.

Not one on here wants this program to go down. But firing the coach will end this program I am afraid.

Alot of people outside of Iowa don't understand the Iowa State vs. Iowa rivalry. Iowa State ALWAYS plays up in that game. It doesn't matter how good Iowa is or how bad Iowa State is. Iowa State just plays them so tough.

I see it here in LA with Ucla and SC.

But I would like to see how Iowa State does against a couple of others in the Big 12 before I bury them as the worst team in the Big 12. The season has just begun. Things change.

But I truly believe it we fire Calahan we are done. I truly have no idea of who we would get to come here that the masses would accept. I don't want to become another Alabama and have to buy and sell coaches daily. We need to work this out and we all need to get on board for the rest of the year. It will help this team if they don't hear the continous complaining I think.

That's okay, but I do not agree. We would not be done. As for Alabama, they have rebounded. The Mike Price incident got him fired during spring practices & they hurried to hire Mike Shula who had no coaching experience. Now they have Nick Saban.

It was Sports Illustrated that reported Mike Price had been seen at a strip club "making it rain" and yelling "Roll Tide, Roll!".

look, we are going to lose some games, be pretty surprised if we do not, we just aren't very good and the coaching, to be sure, is not very good either, especially on the D side of the ball.

cally is a pretty good recruiter, that alone will keep him here to 2011 through the end of his next contract. coz should go at season's end, we will likely see the defense implode a couple times before the season ends.

to make this attractive to the next head coach and i think we will see a new one by 2012 or before, we have to keep cally and at least let him "stock the cupboards" for the next guy. we can't get a new guy, the next guy, who will be worth having, if we make this a revovling door for coaches. 8 years is long enough and all any decent prospective coach could expect, to turn a program around.

in the mean time, hope for some success and wait it out, because if we don't the next guy may be worse than cally, at least when it comes to coaching and improving the players.

Pretty much spot on hunter.

We can not fire this coach. This is a very important season. Maybe more so than a great season. We need to circle the wagons. We have enough coming from outside to be battling inside. Coz may be gone. But if BC leaves this year, it will be bad.

Yes Alabama is on the rebound, well maybe, I think they are now ranked behind us, but really nothing since Stallings left due to fan preasure. And if you have 4 million a year for a coach maybe we will be in business, but I don't think the University will fund that note.

We fire Coach Callahan this year and there is absolutely no one that would come here. Or at least anyone that we have heard of. It was hard enough to get the current coach.

It is not friggen paradise guys.

skersfan, just so you know I wasnt preaching. I'm not really into debating either. I just simply disagreed. I'm not someone that throws chairs and turns blue in the face to holler out in each thread to get rid of Cally or Coz. However I dont think they fit & I wouldnt lose sleep if by morning they were gone. I prefer they stay throughout the season though. Finish what they started this year. No biggie.

808 you didn't watch CU OU did you? CU out rushed them, out passed them and outplayed them. We are not thinking we are back yet, we could loose to Baylor, we are young and have a ways to go but I wander if you have even been watching the huskers? If you think your leaps and bounds better than CU right now, I dont know if your watching old hi lights or what but the rest of the world dont see it either .
