Matt Rhule to stay at Nebraska

I don't like moral victories. A loss is still a loss and it is beyond time we win these big games.
I'm sick of moral victories as well.....Who gives a rats a$$. The best pass defense in FBS is great. If we are winning.....Best run D was great last year.....If we are winning. I have watched the worst NU football in my life since Bo was fired and wondering if we will ever right the ship or are we now going to be a bottom feeding 6-7 win team.

I understand giving Rhule the extension. Keep the recruits. Get the donors to give money. But I do not think he gets it without PSU firing Franklin. What did he do to earn it? A .500 regular season last year? 6 wins this year? And to lose, at home, on a HUGE night game, and those 2 back to back TO's....If I am a donor I am asking will I get my monies worth if this staff returns. This is not a B1G staff.

Hopefully coach Rhule takes that extra money and learns how to use timeouts.

His in game coaching ability is abysmal.
The timeouts at the time felt weird but if you listened to the post game they made more sense. He had an 18 year old under center in a huge game who was confused. As we saw, every drive mattered in that game.

Some things to pick on but really felt like a win if Raiola didn't get hurt. Appreciate the fan base being awesome and creating that great atmosphere. Really appreciated EJ tonight. Disappointed because we had the game plan to win but couldn't overcome the adversity. Still felt so much better than getting our butts kicked and looking like we don't belong in those big games like during the Pelini era.

As of 2014 near the end of Pelini's tenure, Bo was 5-18 against ranked teams. Not great but better than 2-24 by Rhule.

I'm sure he had his reasoning, the problem with Rhule is that they're bad ones.

This was not a one time issue, Matt Rhule has wasted and mismanaged timeouts his entire tenure at Nebraska.

The reality is that this football program is gripped by extreme fear. Whether it's the AD extending a .500 coach despite nobody pursuing him or our OC calling running plays on 3rd & long or our coach opting for a 50 yard FG. This program is wrapped in a shroud of fear and it's going to be worse as the season ends poorly.

One thing I believe many are missing in assessing this 2025 season is that it's one of the relatively easiest schedules we have had since we joined the BIG. This year we do not play the Big Three in the conference...Ohio State, Indiana or Oregon. That rarely happens for a team to avoid playing the top 3 teams in the league.

Guess what....next year we play all three. We have OSU and Indiana in Lincoln and Oregon in Eugene. Unless those programs have some major coaching changes in the offseason, they are going to be just as dominant in 2026. We also play Illinois, Iowa and Washington in 2026. It's a brutal conference schedule.

I think we have our HC. He does great with his players, the administration, his coaches, and building up the Nebraska program (sincere efforts).

However, I do think some of his staff isn't getting the job done in some areas, and definitely not quick enough.

I have big concerns with the RB coach, the D-Line coach, and the O-Line coach.

The 3-3-5 scheme and philosophy is bettor suited for the Big 12 or Big East/ACC teams. It is not a good choice for B1G football against powerful O-Lineman and big RBs. Switch to 3-4 or 4-3.

I cannot understand how we can play an entire season with one running back. That falls on the RB coach - 100%.

O-Line coach uses techniques that most college teams do not use.

If the HC keeps these guys, he should have them change up their philosophies, techniques and schemes to keep them on payroll, or let them go.

How hard is it to be like "What does Bama do, teach? Ole Miss? Ohio State? Michigan? Georgia? Texas A&M and Tech (great defenses and O-Lines)?

If we are going to play big boy football, need to change the defensive scheme & technique, and the O-Line blocking technique.

His biggest con is his inability to handle game management. He needs help in that area.

I do think his players love him.

Needs to find him an OL assistant to help with the tackles. Am I right that our OL problems are mostly the tackles?

I firmly believe it's the technique with the coaching philosophy. Not necessary the players or positions.
