Matt Rhule to stay at Nebraska

The timing is bizarre. Why not wait until after the USC game? If he wins, it would make this extension easier to understand. I really hope we win the game because if we get embarrassed on national TV, it will really make the decision to extend harder to stomach. If Matt Rhule is sincere about making this home, then he should want to earn an extension rather than leverage the PSU situation. I believe we have not beaten a ranked opponent in a while now. Saturday is another one of those moments where we can show progress. Win and earn an extension.

If we beat USC and then extended him you would still be bitching about how we extended a coach who is 1-20 in ranked games.

If Dannen leaves, Rhule's buyout is cut in half. If Dannen and President Jeff Gold both leave, there would be no buyout.

What are your thoughts? Personally, im not a huge fan of this, particularly when Nebraska is likely to finish the year with a 6-6 or 7-5 record. I don't think a .500 coach after year 3 is worth extending.

But at the same time, looking for a potential new coach, if Nebraska fears he's going to get poached, isn't ideal in the current market.

I’m good with it if only because another reboot would set us back years yet again. I think he is moving in the right direction. Maybe not as fast as I want but the loss of players and coaches on a reboot and being in a coaching market with multiple marquee programs in the mix is not where we want to be right now
