Matt Rhule to stay at Nebraska

"Unfortunately, the specific Adidas "Blackout Herbie Husker" shirt Matt Rhule was seen wearing is
not currently available to the public, and was likely a special item for Nebraska staff. The limited-edition, Adidas-branded gear often worn by university coaches is typically not sold in retail stores."

Yeah I figured

The more I see about this contract, the more I love it.

He didn’t get a pay raise and it holds both him and the university accountable to be working in the same direction. Honestly, I don’t know how you can ask for more.

What a lawyer’s paradise of a contract clause. Which is who drafted it, so that wheel keeps turning.

Haven't read the last several pages of the thread, but this is the absolute best-case win-win scenario for where we're at right now and Dannen has handled it masterfully. Now we just hope to take the next step Saturday, and if not then, then the week(s) after that.

At the end of the day, even if Rhule ends up not being able to get it done and we have to do this all over again in a few years, he's bringing us much needed stability, and he has successfully dragged our athletic department and booster/donor base into the modern age opening up the wallet. Both of those things will only help our program and Rhule is largely to thank for them.

The timing is bizarre. Why not wait until after the USC game? If he wins, it would make this extension easier to understand. I really hope we win the game because if we get embarrassed on national TV, it will really make the decision to extend harder to stomach. If Matt Rhule is sincere about making this home, then he should want to earn an extension rather than leverage the PSU situation. I believe we have not beaten a ranked opponent in a while now. Saturday is another one of those moments where we can show progress. Win and earn an extension.

I actually think it’s brilliant. This is Rhule snd Dannon forcing the university to commit to NIL. This is striking while the iron’s hot. Tip of the cap

No winners in this scenario unless we do win, but had to be done IMHO. Last chance for a home game hosting top recruits. Add a blackout night game, primetime exposure. We’ll never be good again until we beat a team like this, just sucks that Rhule is talked about for other schools and we don’t want to lose him. If PSU didn’t fire Franklin this extension wouldn’t happen right now and none of would be talking about it. It is what it is and I hope the team really shows up and plays as hard as that possibly can. It’s marketing and image.

He brought in an 8-man high school JV assistant and made him the WR coach. We can’t praise him for firing his original incompetent hires.

Donovan is still on the payroll…
Yes, his bet on a last minute replacement for Mickey after his transgressions didn't work out. I thought of that as a recruiting hire in the Tosh Lupoi mold. Someone young that can relate but it failed. He's not responsible for Bob Wager's drinking though. Still, Callahan and Pelini were much more stubborn to replace those that were not performing to the standard.

If Dannen leaves, Rhule's buyout is cut in half. If Dannen and President Jeff Gold both leave, there would be no buyout.

Two things can be true at the same time:

1. You can be disappointed that we're not 7-1 right now with a better shot at that 8-4 or 9-3 final regular season record.
2. You can also acknowledge that Rhule has a really high ceiling.

It's the high ceiling that we're investing in. That's really where the extension comes into play.

I personally think that Rhule has a higher ceiling than Bo did. Yeah, I'm pissed about the Minnesota embarrassment still and it's probably going to sour our final record. But Rhule's ceiling is very high, IMO.

I think another issue is stability.
This is huge right now! With the transfer portal and NIL we've seen how easy it is for a team to be poaches to the point of decimation if the coach leaves. This year's carousle would have us competing with some pretty big bluebloods and desirable destinations so the chance of getting a quality hire are slim to none.
