Ok, we are at a critical point in the season. We've finally have learned how to destroy teams of far lessor talent. We won a close game vs Cinci - who I think will be a better team than what we first thought going into the season. Now is the time to prove it against a talented Big 10 team.

What is your confidence going into this game?

I voted nervously confident. IF our front 7 can contain Michigan's run game (including their QB) then I think we have a very good chance of winning the game. I don't think Michigan wins it in a passing game. Likewise, if our Offense has consistency in the run game, I think we will win.

I think it starts with stopping their RB which I'm not so confident in. Not really worried about Underwoods passing unless he is having success running the ball because then there is gonna be breakdowns in coverage trying to stop him running. He's not the most accurate.

The holes we saw (quite briefly) in our D were corrected, against two not-so-good teams. If we can do that against any Big 10 team the same way and with consistency, we've got a chance to grab some serious media attention. The O is growing naturally with a fine QB (and backups) and the line is learning.

I can't click any of those 4 choices there in the poll. A choice I'd make would be something like, "Honestly I just don't have enough info after playing Akron and HCU." This poll would be more suitable after at least one Big 10 win. Not criticizing the poll. Nice poll. Heck of a poll.

I think stopping BU (Michigan's QB) is the key. We didn't play a spy against Cincy and he ran up and down the field all day. The field was wide open bc we didn't have enough quickness to get to the qb and our coverage in the back was great.

I consider all four options equally possible, based on all available evidence.

i.e. I have no idea what will happen and wouldn't bet money on anything.

Still......optimistic because why not?

Run the ball. Stop the run. We haven't shown ourselves to be great at either. So I'm not sure we're there yet.

And our offense hasn't been great in converting short-yardage plays (which is mostly not being great at running the ball).

Michigan is going to maul both sides of the LOS. A game like this will really show our lack of depth and potentially quality at NG/DT and RB. We are going to have to really stack the box and hope for the best. Hopefully we learned what happens when you let a running QB get loose.

You might feel better if you watch that game again. He didn't run up and down the field all day. Cinci was playing catch up late in the 3rd and 4th quarters so we were focused on stopping big passing plays which opened up a few runs and scrambles. Both times our defense allowed it we were up 2 scores- 13-3 and 20-10. Cinci's last drive was nerve racking but again, we were playing to stop the longer pass plays, which we eventually did with an interception.

To be clear, we weren't good but our D wasn't as bad as some are making it out to be.

We need 2-3 sustained drives to ensure clock management. Take away their ability to get momentum. Couple those long drives with a long return to set up a short field. Finally, we will need to have 1-2 big play/explosive scoring plays to force them to play catch up.
On defense we will need as close to zero penalties so they cannot extend drives. Coupled with at least one turnover. Lastly, we must tackle very well.

Sorry I meant that bc our coverage was so good when he was in the pocket he had free range to take off bc the middle was wide open and while I understand that is going to happen I think that it serves us better if he have one guy hovering in the middle to prevent that instead of dropping everyone in coverage and trying to rely on our front to get pressure when clearly we have struggled to get sacks.
