MLB 2025

My Cubs were playing great and leading the division. Now, their starting pitching can't find the plate. It was a weak part of the team, now it's in dire need of something good. :(

I don't blame him for being mad about that. MLB needs some new umpires.

1st pitch def a ball outside.

2nd pitch is borderline/questionable.

Third pitch is a strike.

Pause it at .21 - Soto bends down very low

Then pause it at .22/.23 when Soto stands upright.

It's belt high. The pitch is a strike down the middle.

Absolutely a strike.

But it's lefty vs lefty, and hitters like lower pitches naturally (left-handed hitters).

It's still a strike when he stands upright. The box is wrong. And don't pay attention to the catcher. Pay attention to the location of the ball and when Soto stands upright.

From a 30 year umpire, I disagree with you. The strike zone is defined by the batters stance as he is receiving the pitch, not where it would be if he stood up straight.
"The official strike zone is the area over home plate from the midpoint between a batter's shoulders and the top of the uniform pants -- when the batter is in his stance and prepared to swing at a pitched ball -- and a point just below the kneecap. In order to get a strike call, part of the ball must cross over part of home plate while in the aforementioned area." https://www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/strike-zone

The standard MLB zone is typically called even a little lower than the exact rule book definition. More on that here- https://www.umpirebible.com/index.php/rules-pitching/calling-balls-strikes

The Giants have completely fallen off a cliff. To think, at the beginning of the season they were the best team in baseball. Their downfall should be studied.
