NBA 2024-25

No, but I ran across a Denver Sports Fan podcast, and the panelists seemed depressed that the U.S. won.
I think I was conflicted a bit.  The NBA is about rooting for individual players as much as any team sport around.  You're so used to rooting for your guy...that it's tough to turn off, combined with how insufferable some of Team USA's player's are (looking at you, Embiid).  Would have been an historic upset, and the closer the reality came to happening...I was kind of rooting for it.  Serbia is a country of like 6 million people, and this game meant everything to them.

FIBA officiating is way more legit than NBA officiating.  And we all know why for several reasons, but mostly because NBA is a US league and the NBA does things differently.  Was good to see Embiid not get special treatment by FIBA.   And even though he tried to draw fouls, I could hear him hollering "AHH!" every time he went up for a shot inside the paint or around it.  Crazy...  And when he missed several shots, the other team rebounded and went down the court the other way..  And no FT for Embiid and getting 2 points out of it.

The NBA would have blown the whistle and gave him free throws.  But FIBA didn't fall for it (superstar treatment) for most of it and that was pretty cool to see.

Anyway, I got off track from what I was mostly trying to say - A shout out to FIBA, their officiating, team USA and other countries that played real well.

I enjoyed watching the Olympic Games and very happy we won Gold.  Also, teams like Germany and Australia really surprised me.  And teams like France and Serbia played really well as expected.

Season starts tonight for dallas.

I should be excited, but I'm not at all to be honest.

I am coming to grips that the last 5 years of the playoffs has really worn me out as a fan of professional basketball.  And it has nothing to do with winning or losing.

It's just that when you go through a long regular season, the playoffs feel even longer no matter who is playing.  And that's all I keep thinking about whenever I think about the NBA season starting.

I don't know if I made any sense, but yeah...  Not all excited at all.  Perhaps in another month or two I will regain my pro-basketball enjoyment.

College hoops and FIBA basketball seem more enjoyable to me RN.

At least your team looked good. I just watched the corpse of my team get mauled in their opener.  I think the Nuggets are exactly what a lot of us fans feared they’d be…Jokic surrounded by a bunch of unathletic guys that can’t shoot or guard on the perimeter. Not a winning formula in todays nba

That's too bad. Even as a Warriors fan I liked seeing Klay and the Mavs having some fun out there.

But yeah, the NBA season is too long. I know they've floated a modest cut down to 74 games, but it will never happen. I think adding the 17th game to the NFL was a mistake, too, and my football fandom this year has been curtailed by the number and quality of players not playing do to injury.  Baseball manages to play 162 regular season games but the games are so slow and summers feel so sleepy that I just take them for granted.

I'd like to say the college game feels more pure and exciting than the pros, but it certainly isn't pure in the NIL and Portal era, and it's hard to be loyal to a roster of mercenaries measuring their options even mid-season.

Great stuff in Cleveland last night.  Cavs bury the Lakers.  Bronny gets a huge cheer for his first NBA points.

This is what the Lakers are....

Just like when the special needs kid get to run the ball in a HS FB game.

Just another game for Jokic. He is so consistent. Averaging 29 13 11 to start the year with all the injuries and new guys getting worked in.

Still feels like there's already a window closing on Denver.

If you could grab one other player to compliment Jokic's game, who would it be?
