NCAA rules changes

I personally think the unlimited contact is a bunch of bs. Basically, these high school kids are going to start being bothered now on a 24/7 basis. Decisions are going to start to be made based on who annoys them less. I know with social media these days it's extremely hard to police the contact rules, so it appears they decided to make it all okay, kinda like legalizing marijuana.
I don't think it means "unlimited contact" - it means they removed limits on the "methods" of contact. basically facebook and texting was getting lumped into phone calls and other forms of communication. if a recruit subscribes to your twitter account and you send out a tweet are you communicating w/ that recruit during a dead period? technically yes. it was getting too complicated because things have changed so much.
Still, does this mean "unlimited contact" through Facebook messaging and Twitter? In essence, with social media these days, its the same thing.

I would assume the same dead periods still apply - they are just more clearly defining the methods of communication. Remember (and I could be wrong on this because it was a while ago) when texting was classified the same as email? Recruits were getting tons of text messages so they made it the same as a phone call or something like that. Don't remember the particulars.

Anyways - when you communicate with kids today in 7 word blurps - they can't qualify that from a "communication" in the same way they qualify a phone call - which I think is limited in number and time periods.

On a side note: I wrote an application for a company I work for the collects user's FB messages against their API. I've thought about combining that with a twitter and producing a Husker Recruit and Husker football feed...essentially you could monitor all these recruits through a singular location. I've just got too much going on. Feel free to build out the idea - you could probably make some money off it. Doubt anything out there currently is targeted towards recruiting.

Unlimited means unlimited. And dead periods are gone. The change in the rules was a strait up removal of the clauses that limited number of contacts. No more having to keep a count of how many times a coaching staff has called a player, or texts.

Yeah, schools will have new staff positions that are just there to recruit. And Nebraska better be right on top of it if we want to stay competitive.

I'd still be interested in seeing some clarification on additional recruiting staff. I have a hard time believing that they'd allow hiring of straight recruiters. I still think it's just to allow a separate recruiting coordinator.

As a side note, I'm pretty sure that was Steve pederson's job under Osborne at one time, designated recruiting coordinator/administrator, when such a position was allowed.

This move should help us and the other larger programs that are capable of funneling a lot of money into recruiting.

According to a Forbes article I was reading...

Also removed were regulations restricting the number of coaching staff that could recruit off campus at the same time as well as the types of recruiting materials that could be sent to prospects. While coaches such as Alabama’s Nick Saban have been known to send over 100 recruiting letters to prospects in a single day, the new rule changes allow for Saban and other coaches with unlimited financial resources to hire a designated “recruiting coordinator” whose sole job is to create uniquely tailored recruiting books, posters and other materials and send to prospects on an almost unlimited basis.
And it is unlimited contact according to them. Looking at the rules above it appeared more like they were defining the methods - guess not.

So it is an administrative position. As mentioned above, these are the type of things that benefit us as we can put our money and resources to work (legally).
