International Man of Mystery
Head Coach Mike Riley has made two additions to the University of Nebraska football staff, adding a former Husker and NFL standout to the coaching staff, and hiring a former NFL general manager in an administrative capacity in the Nebraska program.

Riley has hired John Parrella as Nebraska’s defensive line coach, completing the 2016 coaching staff. Parrella comes to Nebraska after two seasons as the defensive line coach at Northern Michigan University. A native of Grand Island, Neb., Parrella was an All-Big Eight defensive tackle at Nebraska and played 12 seasons in the NFL.

Nebraska has also hired Billy Devaney as Executive Director of Player Personnel and Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Devaney has more than three decades of experience in the National Football League in administrative and player personnel roles. He served as the general manager of the St. Louis Rams from 2008 to 2011, and was most recently a pro personnel scout for the Atlanta Falcons.

In his role with the Huskers, Devaney will work with Riley to develop, implement and oversee a comprehensive football player personnel program. Devaney will head up the process of identifying prospective student-athletes, allocation of scholarship offers and assist the head coach with roster management. Devaney will directly oversee the Huskers’ player personnel and recruiting staffs.

I'm still excited to see what Parrella can do here.

But...wow....Billy Devaney?

That's a really interesting addition.

Hadn't heard anything about Devaney prior to this. Certainly can't hurt having a former pro scout on staff to help evaluate recruits

The Devaney hire is huge just for the fact it shows the amount of respect Riley has in this profession. You have a guy in Devaney who has spent 30+ years as a scout, personnel and front office guy. And the first time Devaney comes to the college game is to work with Riley, who he work alongside during their stint with the Chargers.

Plus it doesn't hurt that Devaney has made a LONG career out of scouting NFL talent. Having that set out eyes in the AD certainly cannot hurt.

He's going to put his eyes inside the ginger assassin?

I like the Devaney hire. This is the kind of stuff we should have been doing 8-10 years ago. Nebraska needs to use every possible resource to get back on top.
