Nebraska wins The Battle for NU! What did we learn????

We are 6-2 and we are in the B1G. Better? The reality is you have no idea what will happen in a game that hasn't been played yet. Its cool you think you have a crystal ball and can tell the future but I promise that you do not.
I don’t think “no idea” is accurate, but I guess we will see.

Common theme this year. If you don’t say “a win is a win, we’re awesome” you get lit up in the Ole What did we Learn forum.

Bring in some obscure stats that show we are good, but in the whole scheme of things are meaningless.

Let’s toss a bookmark in here and see what we think in a month. I’ll gladly admit I’m wrong if it goes down that way. We end the season 1-3 in my opinion. But we are bowling! Program rebuild complete. Suck it Purdue!

Show me where anyone in this thread has said "we're awesome"?
Fair. It hasn’t been said.

But it is 100% an issue of anyone getting called out that isn’t pumping sunshine.

Edit: I don’t think this team is better than last year with the exception of what Ekeler has done. It’s a pretty sad improvement for the “program builder”.

I’m not looking for a playoff team. Just play good football. We don’t. Progress is we don’t kill ourselves anymore. We just play bad.

False. The issue is the tone that people use in pointing out our flaws.

I would guess no one bat an eye if you said "That was good win. Most NU teams from the last decade wouldn't have been able to pull it out. The OL looked better, but we still need to see improvement from both lines and Dylan has to be more consistent if we want to win 8 games"

But after a win when people jump on here and say "We play bad football. We'll be lucky to win 1 football game the rest of the year. We'll get beat down by Iowa and USC and be lucky to beat UCLA" you are going to get called out.

Why use quotes if it’s not even the statement I wrote?

And for the record this started with there’s a night and day difference in the program. It went to this. I guess night and day means we are still battling Minnesota, Northwestern and Iowa.

I don't think he's saying that's your statement. People often use quotes to paraphrase or characterize tone, like "this is the general type of thing people say" not "this is exactly what you said."

Anecdotally, I haven't seen a lot of people getting blasted for failing to be a sunshine pumper. I see some contradictions of criticisms but that's a far cry from "getting called out." But for example there was a certain poster who came into this thread from a very defensive standpoint and positioned their viewpoint as "realism" and the 100% truth, implying everyone else was basically a kool-aid drinker who couldn't possibly understand reality. It was a pretty disingenuous stance and that's obviously not going to be received well.

This year in turnover Margin, we are +.1 and last year we were -.2. Small, but it is an improvement. Seems small. But, that's a difference between 57th in the country and 71st last year. In 2023, we were -1.4 and 132 in the country. So, in turnover margin, we have gone from 132nd in the country to 57th and are sitting at a + number.

This year in penalty yards, we are 43.4 yards per game. Last year we were 53.9. That's a difference of 83rd in the country last year to 27th in the country this year.

Yes, special teams has been a big improvement. But, to say other than that, there hasn't been any improvement is....well....just not willing to see what's in front of you.

On our last drive of the 2nd quarter, we were showing some ridiculously good run blocking. We had a play up the middle where we washed their entire line to where there was a 5 yard radius in every direction for EJ to run through.

Then we basically did the same thing again on the very next play with Mozee.

Then we went with what looks like an RPO on 1st & 10. We had the great run blocking again, but Raiola pulls it out and throws a low-percentage fade to Key. To be honest, that play drives me crazy.

This then set up the "WTH" play of the game for me, where we have Raiola lining up under center, play action-ing, and then just cluster f****** around for a Mahomes type of improvised who tf even knows what where we fumble.

Dana needs to do better than this. If we're going to run that play, I think it's better with Ricky Haarberg because then the D thinks we're definitely running a sneak and you can trickeration out of it if you really have zero confidence in your short yardage run play.

So between that one and the missed field goal we were terrible on offense in the 2nd quarter.

I am 90% sure Dylan had EJ open in the flat right off the play action, but didn't throw it.

Play starts at the correct time on this one:

This is the kind of play where Raiola is at his best - when he shifts and moves around the pocket, and especially when he rolls out. Because he's just so damn accurate, regardless of whether he's stationary or on the move. It doesn't matter, he just throws dimes.

I know he "shifted and moved" because of the pressure being correctly worked to the outside. But still.

I was going off memory. Upon rewatch, maybe not? Or just throw the ball in front of him and see if he can make a play?

Sure. I think what I'd prefer is for Holgorsen to have figured out the short yardage running situation by this point in the season.

And like I said, I'd like to see that play with Haarberg if you're going to throw it. Like, just try that.
