New ST Coach Mike Ekeler

2 things

1- HCMR knows he is fighting for his career. He really wants this to be his last stop. He has made some good moves this offseason. Will we see improvement? I think so, but the B1G is freaking tough. I am OK with an easy non-con for now. I have always thought the first step for improvement is to beat the old B1G west opponents. Like, go undefeated every year. Do that, and we are fine for the first step.

2-Do not get attached to specific players. This era is different. I am of the attitude if they don't want to be here? GTHO.
Are we allowed post levelheaded things like this? I think this might be a bannable offense.

Rhule said Aurich will be helping Dvorachek with the linebackers. Probably why that position wasn't really available to Ekeler
I'd prefer Ek to help and let the new DC concentrate on well, the whole defense.

Sounds like Rhule could care less if Ekeler leaves from the sound bytes above. "Our goal was to make a jump this year and outplay Iowa in special teams, and that didn't happen, so there is a lot of more meat on the bone...Im grateful for what he did."

Note to Rhule, you're 0-3 against Iowa....You haven't outplayed them in any phase.

And I do think ST's helped win some games this year....I mean the 95 yard KO TD against NW, who erased the 15 point deficit to tie....That TD helped.

We are now at the phase where media folks are saying that coaches shouldn’t believe that the people they hire can do the jobs they were hired for. Ek was hired after Foley didn’t fix the problem, what is Schaefer trying to prove? Ek also didn’t fix all of the special teams issues. At the end of the season Barney was terrible at kick off returns and our punting was actually bad all season.

I think he just tired of special teams being the subject instead of the whole team. From other things I read, I don't think Rhule is satisfied of lasts years special teams play.

Seems like he is just stating that facts. And many of Rhule's choices for assistants have questionable at best. Hiring Ek he went out and got the best available. ST play wasn't perfect last year under Ek but they were a quantum leap above where they were with Foley.
