NFL 2024

If it makes you feel any better, #1 draft pick Caleb Williams is looking every bit as pathetic, averaging 4.0 yards per attempt.

Is anyone really surprised that the Chicago and Denver franchise quarterbacks are sucking? You could throw peak Tom Brady in either organization and I'd still predict it.

Maybe. But it looks like the OCs are coddling them with play calls designed to get them completions, but not to gain yards, first downs, or wins.

The finances of the NFL are hurting QB development in quite a few cases I believe.  Teams are basically semi-forced to start high drafted first round picks the first year when most of them would be way better off sitting, observing, and learning the game that first year.

Bo Nix and probably Caleb Williams are examples of QB’s who should not be playing early in their first year, especially without a talented team around them.

by talented team around them i'm assuming the talent needed that you're referring too is skill positions but these two teams are so flawed on both lines also. So maybe when you say "without a talented team" you truly mean a complete make over is needed. Chicago is lacking a stretch receiver threat and a skilled TE. Denver on the other hand is just plain bad. Defense is average, Offense is no where and skill positions, do they exist on this team?

I think they've had some injuries and the OL is meh, but if DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet, and D'Andre Swift and a great defense is not a talented team I don't know what is. I do agree almost every QB would benefit from sitting a year or two, but Williams is in as good a situation as I can recall for a rookie QB. The NFL is tough.

I think if a team starts a rookie QB with a “meh” or less than offensive line, it generally leads to rough sledding for that offense.

Caleb and Bo will be fine.  I will happily follow their progress throughout their rookie season.  I know in both games the Bears played, the Center got destroyed from bull-rushes and messed up the pocket (can't step into the pocket when there is no where to go).  He is responsible for 6 sacks.  And some of us Bears fans really wanted a top tier center in the draft (there was several) but we kept the 9th pick and went with Odunze instead of trading the pick to get a starting Center down in the draft.  Oh well.

I don't think it's fair to want instant success at QB - through 2 games.  Have to be patient and see them learn while they play it out.  Kind of stinks that the play calling is a lot of short routes so far.  Expect that to expand more as the season goes.

The thing I really like about Caleb and Bo, is their football maturity, work ethic, preparation, and competitive nature.  These guys are going to learn from mistakes, even if it's several mistakes, they will be better later in the season and definitely by next year.  Year 2 and year 3 will be a lot better.

You got to be happy you have them, instead of not having them, and you need patience.  They are too good to be disappointed in them through a couple games.

Aaron Rodgers looks especially ancient out there because he's wearing an old-timey looking helmet. It's just round.
